Hi all. Just wanna run this by you fine folks. I rebuilt 2 G07s a little over a year ago. Now one was with a kit I got from Bob and one was with a kit from Ian, but I can't remember which one was done with which kit.

I followed the flow chart and get to the section where it says Open CRT heater circuit. Look for broken wires, cracked pcb or bad solder joints on HV unit (this is the flyback right?).

B+ was at 115. Adjusted to 120 and no change. If this monitor was done with the Bob kit, I'm leaning towards the flyback crapping out.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

i would be checking such things on the neck pcb as the wires soldered on either fray or break off, cold solder joints and ic501 to start with.

No broken wires on the neck board. I did a reflow when I rebuilt it last year. Not to doubt you, but the flow chart only indicates IC501 in cases of unstable pic. I have no pic and no neck glow.

If voltage at the HOT collector is the same as B+ there is no horizontal drive so you'll have to focus on that.

Looking at the chassis from the back, which is the collector? I don't wanna measure the wrong thing.

The br and ian kellogg kit are night and day different.

Shoot us a pic, after you follow up with M K L 's advice.

Yes a bad flyback can read good b+ but display no pic (in my experience).

check the 1-2 parts and traces in the heater circuit.
there are not many, it is a simple circuit.

you can measure the voltage coming off the flyback for the heater to see if it is present.

if your getting it direct from the fly, then your problem is down stream.

if no voltage from the fly then i would replace the flyback.

follow the schematic in the manual and you can see what pins and traces to measure.

if you hit a brick wall, your always welcome to send it in.

Sorry for seeming obtuse. How do I measure voltage from the flyback while it's in the game and mounted to the frame? Can I measure at the neck board or another place?

yes you can measure it on the neck board.

review the G07 manual and follow the heater circuit it only has 1-3 parts in it on average.

if you want to work on your monitors, this is a prime opportunity to read up on AC and DC how to measure it, then apply it to your monitor.

if we just tell you what to check and hold your hand, you don't get as much out of it.

time to cut your teeth.

read the manual and see what you come up with.

Heater voltage was low, at 1.4v. Pulled the chassis and everything else checked good, so I replaced the flyback due to 2 reasons. It was a BR flyback and I found other references to the voltage being that low, that it was likely a flyback. Replacing the flyback brought the monitor back to life. :D Thanks for the tips, all.

a bob roberts fly will do that, luckily we have people like security0001 who stand by their product

Great post and useful advice. I tried to rep you again but the forum said NO!

Well done all.

Another Bob Roberts piece of crap garbage flyback. When will it end?

That was the most recent one I'd received from Bob. Everyone after that has come from Peter or Ian. I do have at least one G07 with a Bob kit still going strong after several years, so I guess it was hit or miss.

thank you and most of Ian's flybacks came from me also since i had been selling them to him since last august.
