OK..i just picked up a millipede with the following description:

"Worked until recently, but now I plug it in and all I get is 3 beeps indicating a memory error"

I take this as meaning, everything else is as it was while it was working. Here's my possible issue... I'm doubting this monitor ever worked in this machine (thinking the guy swapped it out into another vid he had there.. a Bump & Jump quite possibly). Why do I think this?..well when I got there, the monitor's signal cable had been disconnected from the monitor. Seeing them disconnected really doesn't send up a red flag ... but I should probably have questioned it a bit more. The other item I didnt realize is that Millipede comes with a Matsushita monitor..not a G07 (dammit) I got the machine home and havent touched it for a week while i try to procure some RAM to take care of the error. Here's the issue, I got bored today after getting my second wind and cleaned the 1/4" of crap off the monitor and discover something I couldnt see before:

Not only is there screenburn..but it's upside down. Now where millipede doesnt have the dip option to flip the screen, I'm assuming that this monitor is probably not installed correctly. (I suppose I could be wrong).

Here's a pic of the back:

I'm not very familiar with monitors... can you tell by looking at it if it is installed upside down?.. and is possible this monitor actually did work in this machine? Would like to know before I tear this guy a new one...

Thanks

Sure it could have. Part of that screen burn at the bottom could have come from another game. The monitor is most likely not original to that cab. It's possible someone used a monitor in a different cab, rotated the tube because they didn't know how to swap the yoke wires, then it got put back in that cab.

I wouldn't worry about it, other than making it work.

And beeping is an indicator of a board issue...

std res monitor is the same as the next , that monitor may have been changed out several times already since the machine was built. only way to tell if it is oriented correctly is put your neckboard on, hook uo the rgb and sync wires , and see if the monitor comes on , if you can get a pic you can tell if the orientation is correct.

That still won't matter if the yoke wires weren't plugged in correctly.

And my buddy has a Matsushita monitor in his Millipede, and it was put in the same way....

Thanks modessitt and Space_Cowboy. I'll then go on the assumption (at least for now) that it did work in the cab. This G07 has no neck glow when I power it (yes..the neckboard was on when I did it)... does that mean "find another monitor"? or could that be a capkit/flyback away from working?

I also have another G07 that seems give a compressed verticle image that rolls uncontrollably.. would the capkit/flyback correct this possibly? ..I ask this because I have a flyback and capkit for a G07 :) ... (this was tested in my pole position which currently has an identical working G07... so when I connected up this one, it gave me the compressed scrolling image, so I'm fairly certain where it's a G07 that it would connect to the pole position the same way as the current monitor and give the same results.. Is this a bad assumption?)

If I can get a monitor going, I'll be happy :)

"Most" Atari games have a slot cut in one side of the wood for the shelf to fit through, which makes it very easy to determine proper monitor orientation for that specific game.

Check fuses F901 and F902.

If it's never had a cap kit, might as well replace them and throw a new flyback and HOT in there. Rolling could be caused by incorrect sync, bad transistors, bad pots, etc.

Most atari games I've worked on, the 'base' of the monitor goes on the other side, however I had a Millipede exactly once and the monitor was orientated the way yours is. mine was a matsupieceashita and the base was on the left, like on yours. Yours isn't a matsushi though, but maybe when they removed the other one they slid the new one in that way since that's the way the wood was cut (like D said) and if you look at your pic, you can see that they've actually got it in the right way for the wood, the part for the top that you can see doesn't have the cut for the shelf mount so it must be on the other side.

cool.. I have a G07 rebuild kit from Bob Roberts (includes the hot)..so hopefully I can get one of them going. Thanks everyone for the input. I'll post my results.

The tube could have been in a game with a mirror. Is the burn upside down and backwards?

Or it may have come from a cocktail unit that ran the attract mode one direction most of the time.

For what it is worth, the Centipedes I've gotten had the same monitor mounting. Horizontal monitor mounted in a vertical configuration, chassis to the right when looking from the front. One had slight Pac burn that was upside down because Pacs mount with the chassis to the left (when looking from the front).
