Spy Hunter / vertical mount monitor. There is a white line on bottom of screen. I can adjust it out using HFREQ, but it just moves to the top (disappears from bottom, now shows on top).
Adjusted the width coil - no movement (thinking i can stretch it out).

Got a G07 cap kit and width coil - replaced all. Still, have the white "bar" or line at the bottom, still HFREQ moves it from bottom to top.

There is a TON of information out there - but i am not sure which solution to go after - does this problem sound Width coil related? When i turn that thing, is it supposed to move the screen? I would hope so - all i need to do is stretch this white line out of the bottom.

I saw this: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=147372&highlight=width+coil.

Could that be my problem (the new coil is locked, hence no results when i spin it using the white plastic adjuster tool, while risking my life i am so damn close to the HV)?

Or is it something else?

Thanks.

If it is locked, it won't turn.

It takes a lot of turns to get very little movement on the screen.

Make sure that you are actually turning the slug, and not just spinning the white adjustment tool. You are only risking your life if you are mentally retarded or really unlucky.

Thanks Dokert - good tip by the way regarding the anti seize. Of course i read that after i installed the coil.

Retardation and lack of luck are factors here. Hence my fears.

As of recently though i have become a little "respectfully" bolder around my monitors, so i am getting there.

Ok - going out now to turn that coil some more - hopefully i notice a change, or i will pull the chasis and get a closer look at the old slug.

Ok - the slug freely moves. I found that tightening it up all the way (Slug closest to the base) worsens the problem - whereas looser (slug nearly out of the coil housing) makes it better. BUT, problem is still there.

White line, bottom of monitor, HFREQ moves that to the top.

Any other ideas on how to get rid of it? Its about an inch or two thick.

Pulled the chasis again, did the horiztonal sync mod (didnt do it the first time). Still have the white "bar" at the bottom.

Anyone here know what else i can try? So far:

-- New cap kit (all caps replaced)
-- New flyback
-- All solder reflowed
-- New width coil adjusted
-- Cleaned and sparkly (it couldnt hurt)

Anything else I can check? Could it be PCB related?

Other info: G07 monitor, vertically mounted, bottom of screen has a 1 - 2 inch white bar that can be adjusted out using HFREQ, but this just moves the white bar to the top!

Oh - i do have a G07 in my Crystal castles - but it seems a little different - the adjust knobs are not soldered on (otherwise, seems the same chasis / etc). Can i just swap the G07 chasis (neckboard, chasis board) to rule out the PCB as the problem?

Ken,

Thanks - Hmmm. Well, it seems that someone before may have moved that 'objectionable vertical line" to the edge (in my case it appears horizontal, because the monitor is mounted vertically for Spy Hunter) - next i guess i need to figure out how to "check cycle game for correct boundary alignment".

Of course SH has no cycle game - so, maybe there is an in game monitor alignment i missed in Spy Hunter? Will check today.

Well, think its PCB related. Went into test mode and only see grid display options related to monitor. The grid display shows perfect - no white bar at bottom.

Seeing this leads me to believe that when the game is displayed, the pcb is causing the white bar at the bottom.
