This is on a converted Robotron 2084 to a Tetris

I have a G07 monitor that works, fails, and then works fine again.

When it fails, everything on the screen is skewed in thin lines from left to right. I have attached an iPhone picture (sorry for the crappy quality - I need to get an upgrade).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stuff done so far:
Disconnected main connector on game board and re-seated. No corrosion noted.
Inspected wires from main board to monitor connector, no issues found.

Did not disconnect monitor connector.
Cleaned up back of monitor with a toothbrush to help remove some of the dust and gunk.

What is odd: Left this game on after placing Token mechs and changing the locks. Came in the next day, and the monitor looked like the photo. Turned the game off, came in the next day, and the monitor was still looking like the photo, and then it went back to normal.

I suspect a bad connection.

I will tell you the problem is probably the sync solder pins. They are ice cold from being in that monitor for 32 years....reflow new solder on all those imput pins and perhaps the issue will go away (also spray contact cleaner into that small horizontal hold pot and turn it back and forth)....either/both of those will fix your problem! Sync Pins or Horiz Pot

I did a wire tug on the sync solder pins, and got nothing. I figure if I had a cold joint, I could get the image to go berzerk.

I did use my diddle stick to wipe the horizontal hold pot, and was able to get the screen to look just like it did when I had a problem, so I wiped the pot 10 times left to right, and then set the hold for the middle of the sweet spot.

I'll check in a few times, and see if this does it - if not, it's time to discharge the flyback and pull the board for a re-solder job.

Thanks for the help. Now if someone could give me some pointers on my thread on the Midway Space Invaders monitor that had some smoke on a resistor, I'd be all set.

Still fixed....

Well, as of last night, the monitor was still solid and stable without reflowing the pins. Just in case, I'm building a monitor discharger, so if I need to, I can pull the board and re-flow it.

I'll need it for the Space Invaders monitor board anyway - that one is letting the smoke out.

Moderator - this issue is resolved - you can close out this thread. Thanks!
