G07 fuse blown issue...

Yeah, the VR looks fine.

Try the unplugged degauss coil first, like Dokert said. If the fuse still blows, check diodes D901, D902, D903, and D904...

I will try all of your suggestions and report back here and if I can I would like to PM you, because it will take a few days to gather the parts. Thanks again.

I am your age Steve, but I am falling apart.

Too much cake!

Yeah, I know what you mean. But at least you're retired now. I'm still workin' for a livin' (workin'!) .... workin' for a livin' (workin') ... Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin' ... I'm taking what they're givin' 'cause I'm working for a livin'...

La la la....

No I did not try that. I will put it on my list. Unfortunately I don't have any more fuses w/legs for the G07.

Yeah... gotta hate that. What I just do is get one of those wired inline fuse holders from Rat Shack and put that in instead with the fuse hold hanging off the back of the chassis for easy access. It looks a little "ghetto" when you know what they're supposed to look like, but damn... they're soooo much easier to deal with.

Also, I say it every time... check the bridge rectifiers... When I blow fuses on start-up like that, so far every time has been because of a shorted diode in the bridge. I'm not sure why they would be good before the cap kit, then poop out after... but that's just what I always recommend. So far, out of my limited number of monitors, 3 were blowing fuses on power, all 3 had bad diodes.

Another good tool is a circuit breaker soldered to a blown fuse. I've seen the technique online, but I have no idea where to get one of these circuit breakers.

While waiting for a couple of parts, I decided to test the diodes D901-D904 as suggested. I took them out and tested them one by one and D902 was shorted. Just waiting to get a replacement diode and test. Looks like that was the problem.

Oddly enough, Radio Shack (at least here) actually has diode that will work in a pinch. One of my 4600s is running with 4 for them (replaced the whole bridge), still going strong. You'll pay a bit more, but avoid the shipping charges.

It seems that the only thing that Radio Shacks sell around here are phones. I went looking for fuses one time and they had less fuses than Home Depot. I also doubt that the help there would even know what a diode was.

Oh... trust me... they won't.

But if you look through the parts bin... you know, the parts bin... the BIN that used to be a WALL that used to be AN ENTIRE FUCKING HALF OF THE STORE... then you'll probably find one. (Yeah, yelling about how Radio Shack used to be okay for parts in a pinch... but now is about as useless as a cock flavored lollipop...)
