I know the component shield is important, but I've forgotten why. RF, or does it also act as a link between components?

I'm pretty sure it's RF, but I have many G07's both with and without and I can't see any difference in picture quality.

The most important role this shield plays is this: It keeps the idiots that use a metal screwdriver to adjust the pots from blowing out the IC chip when the screwdriver goes in too far.

true, but touching the shield while adjusting the pots can make the image go black sometimes, but cycling the power usually fixed it...

You are correct Steve but touching a few of the components under that shield with a metal screwdriver makes the image go black permanently.

So - lesson to learn for EVERYONE - buy (and use) a ceramic or plastic screwdriver set...

one of the stubby screwdrivers in Bob's plastic alignment tool kit works perfectly for this, unless you're really scared and want to keep your hands far, far away from the back of a monitor. then i think his 16" non-conductive adjustment tool would work.

Bob has an answer for everything.
