Background:
Capped chassis on the G07, really the whole setup was in nice shape with a no burn tube!
Over time, after a few minutes of gameplay the screen would start to creep. Adjust, adjust, adjust... time after time. Same thing. This was not a typical synch issue where the screen would insanely roll...
Where I went from the start:
Reached out to our subject matter expert, Ken Layton, who graciously assisted and guided me through the fix.
What I found with Ken's tutelage:
1. The two non-polar caps were old and tired and didn't help the situation at all.
C301 3.3 uf @ 50 volts Bi-polar
C520 3.3 uf @ 50 volts Bi-polar
I sourced these via Jameco at 9 cents each. Both were replaced. Recommend this for all folks who are doing this or tracking down an issue as such.
2. The new pots were fine (Bob Roberts kit) but I didn't like the soldering on the vertical hold. I removed and replaced the solder.
3. I checked the all the usual suspect resistors for correct values - reference "incorrect from factory" on the G07.
4. I checked for cold solder joint issues and reflowed several connections. I suspect the synch header *may* have had an issue here as well.
What appeared on the surface, if you will, to be fine turned out to be a combination of several small things. I am making good on my commitment to Ken to share this information in the hopes of helping others. I learned a lot by this and am definitely sharing here.
Ken, you are a tremendous asset to the community and I publicly thank you for your guidance on this fix!
