I think I've posted about this particular chassis before, but I could not find the thread.

I'm tired of looking at this thing, and would like to use it for more than an ugly decoration.

G07-CBO. All caps replaced, new pots, fly. R314, R317 are fine (390 Ohms). Resoldered the entire sync circuit. Will be swapping out the HA11244 later.

Won't stop scrolling, either left-right, or right-left.

More as I try and figure out what's what.

Just throwing this out there, but I had a GO7 chassis fully rebuilt and checked over(with above mentioned items. Installed it in a cocktail with a 60-1 pcb, nothing I did could stop it from rolling. I ended up getting frustrated and installed another chassis an it worked fine. later I installed "the rolling" chassis in a Shinobi game, and it worked fine(rock solid picture). So maybe trying it in another game may give you different results.

It's on my test fixture, so it's definitely not the game. No, something's broken, and I'm going to have to go over the schematic and figure out what's what. :p

Is it scrolling in the vertical section? Like, it's steady horizontal-hold wise, but won't quite lock in the other way? Or is the sync just entirely gone and it swirls around like a bad game of star wars or something :)

It's been a while since I've worked on it, but IIRC it scrolls left-right or right-left. Can get it to slow down - but not stop. Other than that, it appears to have a good picture.

I'll plug it in in a little bit.

Let's try to narrow the sync problem down a bit.

Does it only do this with one type of sync (positive only or negative only) or does this happen with both postive and negative sync?

Unfortunately, I do not have any positive sync stuff on hand at the moment. :p I did...then I blew it up.

It's definitely something related to H SYNC, as I can get it to slow down, so it's a perfect picture going left-right (or right-left) but it doesn't stop.

At least, I don't think I do. What's some common positive sync stuff?

I had thought that I used to use a Golden Tee board to check (which I thought had a switch to switch it from one to the other) and if that's the case, then I still do. Strata GT, not the newer.

I have the same issue but vertically, it just refuses to stop scrolling. Can slow it down to almost stopping, but it isn't right no matter what signal I give it .

Peale:

I have to assume that you've already done the negative sync upgrade so common with a capkit? And I also assume you replaced the two non-polar electrolytics that are not normally supplied with capkits?

yes, and yes. All of my cap kits contain ALL the caps.

Yup, I remember that thread. And, checked those parts when I saw it. I'll go over them again, as I'm going to go over everything again, anyway.

Peale,
I have one doing this too. It won't lock into place, I set it on the shelf a month ago and plan on revisiting some rainy day. It is one of the most frustrating G07s I have ever worked on! Ha! I will update my thread when I decide to put some more time into it....in the meantime, I feel your pain!

I had a G07 several months ago which worked fine but needed a cap kit. I swapped the caps and reflowed the header pins and flyback...and ended up screwing up the pads on the sync header. They looked great and it took me a long time before I ohmed them out. I ended up having to put in jumper wires, even though it looked good to me...

Did you ever try hooking it up before you did the sync upgrade? In my opinion (JUST MY OPINION) that upgrade suuuuucks and doesn't always help, sometimes it makes it worse. I never do that upgrade anymore.

I've seen a different 'upgrade' too on g07's that consisted of small resistors between the sync pins and video ground. I don't know what the values were or if they were something somebody just cobbled together, but the game wouldn't sync without the resistors so I put them back on.

I no longer recall, but probably not. I've never had an issue with the "upgrade". I'm sure that one of the resistors in the circuit are out of spec, and that I just need to sit down with a working one and compare the two until I nail it. But, since I have a bunch of working ones already, that's a "rainy day" project.
