OK Guys,

This is an almost NEVER used picture tube that fits the chassis beautifully. The problem seems to be that the yoke will not slide up the neck far enough to get rid of the rainbow.

Any ideas?

Thx Saltbreez

Sometimes the yoke being TOO CLOSE will also cause that.
Try backing it up.

And is that after a cold degauss cycle ?

Also, I'll add.....sometimes a tube can get permanently magnetized if it's been in close contact with a large magnet. I've seen this a few times with cocktail tables, where operators set large jukebox speakers(magnet side down) on top of the cocktail for extended periods of time. I also agree with what the OP said, try adjusting your yoke.

I've seen this after a G07 tube swap, and it was bacause the yoke was TOO close. Back it off a little while it's on to see if it clears up...

I have tried backing the yoke down the neck, the picture only seems to get worse.

This tube came out of a touchscreen monitor that was labeled 'bad touchscreen' and looked like it had never been used.

I do not know how to or if a cold degauss cycle has been run.

Appreciate the feedback...

The G07 manual has a step-by-step setup chart for doing proper yoke positioning and purity adjustments....

Hold on now...what's the number on the back of the tube? If it's a 52cm tube, the yoke won't fit right. I /think/ the same goes if it's the wrong deflection angle.

The numbers I could find on the back of the tube were:

51OUEB22(Y)
CPJ51OCKAY1Q

It sure fits the frame well....

The tube number you listed should be compatable with the G07. I believe Dave has a degauss coil, you could try using it. If he doesn't have one I do, but I am pretty far away.

It's compatible in that it uses the same neck connections, but the neck is too wide for the yoke! You'll have to find another tube. :'(

And that means???

Thanks,

Saltbrez

Someone asked what the tube number was.....
You listed two sets of numbers....
51OUEB22(Y)
CPJ51OCKAY1Q

510UEB22 is a tube number.

I have no idea what CPJ51OCKAY1Q is, probably a serial number.

If your tube is permanently magnatized...you can try to pull it out with a descent size magnet. I keep blown speakers just for this purpose. I pop the magnet loose from the speaker housing.....Start on the outside of the cabinet, hold the magnet against the wood, and slowly move it around........sides, and front under the control panel. Watch the screen and see how the magnet pulls the colors around. If you find a sweet spot, secure the magnet on the inside of the cabinet in the same spot. Sometimes you have to experiment with different size magnets to get it right. This is obviously not an ideal solution, but if the tube is permanently magnetized....it beats looking at that rainbow effect.

Edward

Edit: I just saw Peale's post. If that's correct, it's gonna be really difficult to pull that magnatism out. Can't hurt anything to try.

Because the neck of a 20" tube is larger than that of a 19". Goes on great at the neckboard connector, but you can't get it up near the body of the tube where it belongs.

I have never experienced that problem. I guess it all depends on the tube and how it is molded.

Guess so - every 20" tube from a TV I've found I haven't been able to put a yoke on, so I stopped bringing them home. Plus there's the problem with mounting them on a frame, they don't like to fit either.

Yeah, I have had problems with shelf mount and vertical mount frames. Universal frames seem to work fine though. I don't care to use the 20" tubes because the pic is distorted around the edges. I primarily use the 20" tv sets for spare parts now.
