I'm swapping a G07 with minor burn into a Gyruss, replacing the K4900 that was there...

I recapped the chassis and neck board (caps only), tested it in the original horizontal mount - looked beautiful. Swapped tube and chassis into vertical frame and retested out of the cabinet - looked beautiful. Noticed that the degaussing coil was not grounded to the chassis, so i grounded it but did not test. All tests were done plugging into the cabinet wiring (with isolation xformer).

Inserted into cabinet, connected the ground wires (speakers and cabinet) to the bolt attaching monitor frame to the cabinet, as original. Powered on and didn't get video - F902 is blown.

Removed from cabinet, plugged in a different G07 (had been capped, but not tested). This time I removed the degaussing coil ground from frame and taped it. I think i still had the 2 leads to the degausing coil plugged into the chassis. F902 blew immediately.

Fromm's flowchart says to check diodes 901-904, and all test ok.

where do i go from here? do i replace 902 and try again without the degauss coil? Did i do something to my tube/yoke?

thanks for any info.

I have a 3Amp tester, so i reconnected the original chassis and clamped the tester over the ends of the blown fuse. I did not connect the degauss coil leads to the chassis, or the ground. Got neck glow and normal image, but with odd colors due to no degauss. Then i powered down and reconnected the degauss coil leads to the chassis, but left the ground wire taped and not connected. Again, good picture, but this time the degauss fired up and the colors were correct all over the screen.

So, my current question is - what do i do with the black wire from the degauss coil (attached to a strap running diagonally across the back of the tube)?

Yes, that wire does go to the neckboard, but on my GO7's, it attaches to a pin on the bottom right hand side, as looked at from the back.

I just run mine to a screw on the monitor frame. Keeps it out of the way for if I ever have to get in there and do a capkit again or something.

This is the wire that is coming from the strap on the back of the monitor.

it goes on the neckboard where shown

Anyone have a notation for the pin it goes to?

There are two tabs on the G07 neckboard you can connect it to. It's just a little flat tab on each side. It's pretty obvious where it plugs onto...
