Hello All,

I will be doing my first monitor rebuild in the next month and I just wanted to start a thread to collect some tips and tricks.

First couple questions are:

What kind of solder should be used?
How hot to set the iron when installing caps and other components?
I was reading the the large grey cap on G07s needs to be discharged before working on the board. Whats the best way to do this with out hurting the cap or myself? Also are there any caps like that on the WG4600?

Thanks in advance for all the input.

1) I use .032" 60/40 (one of the few items I will buy at Radio Shack)

2)I crank my iron at 850 for caps...other components, well that depends....

K4600s are the easiest monitors to cap. My first cap kit was on a k4600 and now when I do other monitors, I really miss how easy the K4600 was. Never done a G07 before.

Compared to a G07, a 4600 is a nightmare. If only because of the width coil, and the fact that it's a semi-production to remove the chassis.

G07: just pops right off. Two bolts, remove the neckboard, unplug the yoke, degauss and dag strap, and you're good to go.
