Hi;
I HAD a fully working rebuilt G07 and wanted to get some reference voltages. During this wonderful idea, I shorted the HOT, collector to base and killed the monitor!

One step forward and two steps back - I love this hobby.....

Anyway, I blew F901 and replaced that. I replaced the HOT and now it still does not work.

I get HV upon start-up then it shuts down. I checked and get +165v at B+...

I don't have a replacement VR (X04) in stock so I will be ordering them. But before I do, does anyone have any ideas of what I %$# did when I shorted the HOT????

Is there anything else I should be looking into????

Thanks in advance....
Jeff

how and where did you test the HOT? never test when its working, you can test it if its in shutdown to help you troubleshoot, you might have cooked your multimeter too.

Hi;
I was getting some numbers together for future troubleshooting and was reaching in to get the base and emitter readings and then inadvertently shorted the base to the collector then = pop = blew the fuse and that's that!
I replaced the HOT and F901 but still NG. The HV starts out 25kV then drops right off. The B+ is ~165v. I think I killed the VR but don't have a replacement to try.

OK, I could not wait for the order so I pulled another VR and replaced this one and I got game.....

I had to adjust the B+ down to 107v to get the HV to 23kV, why is that??

The pic is good but there is a retrace once in a while and if I bang the cab, the pic is affected, is this due to the low B+ setting??

Thanks
Jeff

my g07 is no longer working either. i have no idea how to troubleshoot either. i bought a new chassis. and it still does not work. it sucks to be a noob lol.

Plenty of people here that can fix your G07 for you.

I have this behavior in a G07 I rebuilt for my Ms Pacman.
The daughter was playing the other day and slammed the joystick left, and the picture went out.
She hit left again, and the picture came back. Never saw that behavior again.

If I slam my hand on either side of the cab, i can get the picture to blink, but not go out. Seems flaky somehow.

I'd be interested in knowing why this happens also. :)

I had a Galaga that the picture would go out on if you banged on the case. Turned out to be the bottle cap transistor mounted on the aluminum side plate. Try tapping it lightly with a screwdriver handle.

When a jolt to the cabinet causes the picture to flicker or go out entirely, it will often be due to one of the larger components having a bad solder joint because the mass of the larger parts causes them to move more than something like a small resistor. Start by checking things like subassembly board connectors, large resistors(especially those having long legs), the flyback, neckboard to crt pins, and anything that looks discolored around the solder joints.

Given the "stellar" solder job I did on the re-cap and flyback replacement, it's likely ^^this^^.

I'll probably take it back out eventually and go over the chassis with a fine tooth comb again, but the game is playable as long as you're not too harsh with the controls.
