g05-805 blowing fuse 5 amp F101

My asteroids cocktail monitor started blowing the 5 amp fuse F101. G05 FAQ says:

10. Blown 5 amp fuses:
A. Caused by bad luck. Change fuses.
B. If they keep blowing, check all power transistors that are heat-sinked on the side (as in
the 19" version) or the bottom (as in the 13" version) of the monitor.

Unfortunately, its not bad luck. Replaced all the power transistors w/new mica insulators and its still blowing.

Monitor has already been capped/headers reflowed. Game still plays however the right side of the screen distorts every once in awhile then returns to normal. In test mode, the right side is waves quickly.

Have you tested the bridge at DB100? I was reading some stuff today which suggested that often times a bad bridge rectifier causes this. Run a diode test on it to be sure.

Yes, I got a reading one way but when the leads were reversed, i got nothing.

Little update...

CSA, sorry i thought you said D100. I read up on DB100 and turns out mine was bad. Replaced it and the 5amp fuse is no longer blowing.

However still having issues with the monitor. The right side of the monitor is sort of blooming. Like when an asteroid moves to that side, the screen gets larger and then smaller. In test mode, the right side of the screen is waving pretty quickly.

So far i have capped the monitor, rebuilt the AR board, reflowed all cold solder joints and replaced big blue.

Ideas on where to look next. Looks to be a monitor issue as I have two working boardsets and the monitor does the same on both.

Well I'm no help here. You've gotten further then I have.. I'm still trying to get a picture on mine. Out of curiosity, have you done the 'wire mod' to R100 and R101 on the monitor deflection board? I'm not sure this is going to help, you just didn't list that you have.

well i did the wire mod on one of them. The other still checked out okay so i just left it alone.

I suppose my description of what is appearing on the monitor is a little off...

I made a quick video of whats going on. During game play, its more like the screen folds over a bit then springs back to normal.

anyone got an idea? Ive been looking through the FAQs and other threads but cant seem to find anything.

EDIT: Possibly the X-Amplifier? Q707 and Q706.

If the top, bottom or sides of the display flutter and try to move toward the center, again, check the
power supply. More often, though, this situation is due to a bad transistor in the "X" Amplifier
(sides) or the "Y" Amplifier (top and bottom). Sometimes these circuits will check good with an

Replaced Q707 and Q706. Problem still exists. However during game play, the screen does not shift on the right side. Plays fine. When the game is over and you enter your initials, the screen is wavy like the video shows in test mode. Test mode is also wavy.

You have a board issue, not a monitor issue.

Well i have two boards and they both have the same issue. Just bad luck that they both have the same problem?
