I have two Asteroid Deluxe's and one Asteroids in the shop. The AD's have G05-802's and the Asteroids has a V2000.

Anyway, all of them were blooming. I ordered some HV diodes from Arcadeshop (BobRob is out). I received H1809 diodes. The 802's had H1802's. I put the H1809's in and I get no picture. The flyback wires are direct-soldered to the leads of the diodes (which LOVE to snap off flush with the diode ). Stripe is toward the cup.

I hear no chatter, spot killer is not on, there is usually some spark when I discharge it after pulling the EHT cage, and the brightness and contrast controls give me nothing on the screen (not even a dot).

I swapped the V2000 HV cage on and got a picture (although it was too bright), so it seems the problem is definitely with the HV cage. I have recapped the entire thing. Neckglow is present. Heater voltage is about 6vac.

So - what's the issue here? Wrong HV diode? Something else? Not sure why I'm getting the same thing on TWO monitors that were working-but-blooming before, but do nothing now.

On a side note - why hasn't someone designed a replacement flyback for these that doesn't require an HV diode?

I'm going to go with "something else." I've used the 1809 HV diodes (got mine from arcadechips.com) in both a V2000 and a G05-802 without any problems. I didn't have to resort to direct soldering; as my wires, cups & "springs" were salvagable.

You check the headers on the HV board for cracks? (or just re-solder them for good measure)
