Hi;
I am working on the HV cage of a G05-801 and came across a diode that I need to cross. Specifically, it is D901 and or D902, both a Varo VG-2X 2000V Fast Recovery rectifier. I found a close match but instead of being 250ns recovery, it is 300ns recovery.
(I attached the spec sheets from both the original as well as the one I found as a possible replacement.)
Can this be used even though it is 50ns slower or should I continue to search for an exact replacement???
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

That's "a" high-voltage diode, but not "the" HV diode. The big-daddy is the "VD901" block.

Anyway, the manual says the HV oscillator runs at about 25kHz. In which case the period of oscillation is measured in milliseconds. Seems to me like the diode recovery time is orders of magnitude faster than that, so the diff between 250ns and 300ns will not be important; they're both pretty dang fast diodes. I'd use it... but that's just me.

BTW, those diodes are used to generate the focus and G2 voltages. What problems are you having with the monitor? Have you measured the focus and G2 voltages?

Hi;
Actually I am doing a rebuild of a non-working monitor and while testing the components, found both of these open. I pulled both from the cage to make sure and again both were open.
I am now going to test the CRT, (should have done this earlier), to make sure the CRT. Did not have a hand in their failures.
I will update this thread as I progress through the rebuild.
I expect the diodes in middle of next week.
Thanks again for the back-up, it very appreciated.
BTW, cool HS save kits!
Jeff
