Gonna do a Recel pin for a friend of mine. It'll be my first EM and I'm really looking forward to it. Anyone have any experience with any Recel pins?

I'd like to clean and wax the playfield. What did you use on your Top Speed? Seems plastic-ish and I don't wanna use anything that's going to do harm. I was thinking Simple Green and some Mother's Carnauba wax?

The p/f has a sheet of mylar on it and is nearly indestructable. This one hadn't been cleaned for a solid decade. There was so much ground in crap that Novus wouldn't do squat. 3M red rubbing compound took off the junk... Followed by a polish with Novus2, then good ol' Johnson Wax.

Wiping down with a rag and green stuff would do for loose dirt but I'd be reluctant to spray it around.

Thanks so much. I'm glad there's someone here that has been through one of these.

Oh man. This gonna be a project!

I finally got a look at this thing. Cabinet, being particle board and all, is in good shape as is the back glass. BUT...

The mylar that covers the entire playfield had bubbled up in many spots. The previous owner who is now deceased used staples the top to hold it down (What?!) and packing tape in others (now that's more like it!).

Any suggestions on how to go about this mylar situation?

So I think I'm gonna tackle getting this mylar off first. This leads to the famous question: freeze spray or goo gone?

Also, how much of a pain in the ass is depopulating a playfield in order to strip the glue off?

On that game it won't be bad at all. You could pull the stuff off, throw it in a pile, and still put it back together easily.

Just take lots of pictures. I like to make a map of where everything goes on paper and use the pictures as backup but most people just use pictures.

I also need to wire in a new AC cord here. This looks a bit different than I'm used to seeing. Any tips as to how to wire this one up?

Was the end of the cord ripped off? If it's still there I would use it to determine which wire is the hot and which is neutral but polarity shouldn't matter too much. The yellow wire with green tracer is obviously ground.

As far as how to physically replace it goes... there's a terminal block (the black square) so it should actually be pretty easy. Just loosen the 2 screws connecting the cord to the terminal block and desolder or cut the ground soldered to the transformer. Then install the new one in reverse order to how you removed the old one. I would probably use a crimp eyelet on the ground rather than soldering it to the transformer bracket.

In short... just replace what's there ;)

Against all better judgement, I couldn't help but power it up after replacing the AC cord.

Totally semi-functional! I just had to see where I stood playfield-wise and was delighted to see every coil firing and target scoring.

Staples, indeed. I haven't even thought about how I'm gonna go about removing them. Hopefully shouldn't be too difficult.

So here's an EM newbie question, what's this thing that is dangling here? Any idea where it may go?
