NEW Future Home of Galaxy Blue

A little backstory on the shelving. They were a lot more of an involved installation that I had originally planned. The spaces between the windows are 26 1/4 and 26 3/4 wide respectively. All the heavy duty acrylic shelving I could find either came in 24 inch or 36 inch lengths. Well, I could've bought the 36 inch shelves and cut them to length, I've never had a lot of success with cutting acrylic without cracking, breaking refrain the shit out of it. They also have pre-drilled mounting holes which don't always lineup where you need them to. Well, 6 or 7 years ago when I installed the first set of 24 inchers, I realized that those holes didn't fall over too many studs. So I was forced to use wall anchors and had to fudge them to one side to make sure that they at least hit a stud next to the window trim. They never sat quite right, and it always bothered me. When I removed the original set on Sunday, I tore all sorts of sheet rock paper, and there were big holes in the wall from the wall anchors. My daughter happened to be heading back to college at the exact moment I was taking the old shelving down, and offered to patch the wall before she left for me. She had spent four years working for a painting company that also did drywall repair so he was able to mix up a batch of mud and knock it out quickly. Once she had the wall patched up, I waited about two hours and then painted it.

For the shelving, what I did was take extra finished window trim pieces that I had left over from the remodel, cut the pieces to length, and then I marked and pre-drilled holes in each piece based on the original mounting holes in the acrylic shelves, then added T nuts to the holes from the back. I then marked the studs on each trim piece, pre-drilled tiny holes in the trim pieces and then attached the them to the walls with long trim nails driven directly into the studs. I was then able to attach the acrylic shelves to the trim boards with short 10-24 machine screws driven into the hidden T-nuts. That way the shelving is securely fastened to the wall via the trim boards and they also look cleaner and more professional. The clear coated trim boards also gave me a clean place to install the LED lighting behind each shelf without having to stick to (and ultimately damage) the sheet rock.

Well, this thread is officially 10 years old. Fucking amazing.
Can we stop talking about how old this thread is and we are by association?? Fuck!

In all seriousness, I'm glad I can pop on KLOV and count on an update from you in this thread (and others.) Miss you, buddy. Hope to be up your way in the spring or summer.

Finally brought the dartboard home after nine long years. I brought this to my buddies bar to store while we moved out of our old house and started the remodel on our new one. After we moved in, it didn't seem like there was any room for the dartboard so I left it at my friend's house. My son has been begging for a pool table, and I said can we compromise? Maybe I can bring the dartboard home. He just doesn't like video games and would like something more physical to do. He agreed that if I brought the dartboard home that would satisfy him. Since I brought it home, we've been in the arcade more in the past month than we have probably in the past two years.

I remember there was a long-standing position from some members on here that dart boards just take us space where another game could go. People are fucking stupid.

Yeah, a lot of those people live alone. I think I met most of them at just about every arcade convention I've been to.

I don't have a dart game, but I do have a dart board in the perfect spot. It gets played all. the. time.

That looks fun. I'd just like to lie underneath it naked and wait for the steel tip darts to fall. We could play a fun side game called 'Pin the Godzilla tail on the Honky'.

Nice. Darts is always popular in the arcade. Like you said, it adds the physical element, combined with the fun, turn based aspect that any adult with a drink in hand appreciates. When I was at my old apartment, darts was easily one of the most played games during parties. While the vids got played throughout the evening, I'd always say that towards the end of the night it'd come down to people playing darts, pinball and Megatouch.
