I have a Stern Galaxy

I keep blowing fuse the 5 amp fast blow fuse on the rectifier.

This happens when I plug my J2 connection on my rectifier.... J1 and J3 are unplugged

If I back pin 6 out of the Molex (A.C. Power) the fuse does not blow... But I get nothing.

I have checked my incoming AC power and it is 122 volts

I removed the power switch from the loop that did nothing

I'm using 5 amp fast blow fuses

Not sure where to troubleshoot next!

The rectifier and the transformer are used (due to the fact they were missing off the pin when I got it)

Ok wanted to try one last thing.... removed all wires off of the J2 Molex except for:

6 A.C. power
7 A.C. return
10 A.C. GRD

Still blowing the 5 amp fast blow fuse

My guess is bad rectifier!!!

HELP PLEASE

If anyone has a stern rectifier let me know.....

Tone

First let me state that I know enough to be dangerous so maybe what I'm doing here is just plain wrong.... Please tell me if this is so.....

Went back and grabbed the DMM and did some toning....

It looks as if BR1 is good and BR2 and BR3 are bad....

I can tone diagonally on BR1 both ways and partially on RB2 but RB3 is dead....

See attached picture

I found the Bridge Rectifier at Mouser.... not sure if I need the 12 amp or the 15...

You should not be jumping over diodes. Check each leg one at a time each direction. One direction should 'tone' the other direction should not.

Based off of your pic I am assuming BR1 is good, BR2 is bad, and BR3 was tested backwards, but you should retest.

Here is what I get

Here is what I get when I check for resistance... Not sure what to make of it....

Still to me it looks like BR2 and BR3 are bad....

Yes, it does look like they are both bad. Replacements can be bought at Radio Shack. I'd test them after I pulled them from the circuit one last time just to be sure though...

Replacement?

Bridge Rectifier, 400 Volt, 10 Amp, Wire Leads
Manufacturer: Micro Commercial Components
Replaces VJ248

Bottom mounted bridge rectifier for early Bally and Stern rectifier boards.
For Bally/Stern rectifier boards - due to varying bridge rectifier thicknesses, always replace in complete sets in order to make proper rectifier-to-heatsink connection.

Note, those two big resistors are in line with some of the bridges...and will give a false short.

So now what....

Well I see that BR 1 and BR 3 have a Resistor but BR2 does not and I'm still not getting a good reading through 2.

Anyone have any other idea for testing?

My thanks to everyone that has helped!

Just replace the rectfiers, you shouldn't have to replace the whole board.I bought some for my Paragon and I think they only about 5 bux each(3 needed).

Check

Yeah that's what I'm going to do.....

We have a local supply shop that may have them on Monday if not I'm going to order through Great Plains out of somewhere in Nebraska!

Thanks for the input!

Anyone close to Cedar Rapids, IA???

Ok... Still having issues... Rectifiers 2 and 3 have been replaced.

Fuses are all ok now...

Have not gotten any closer in getting the MPU to flash...

Still has a solid LED the whole time...

Anyone close to Cedar Rapids, IA???
