Watch out for "Gregory J. McHugh" who claims to be a Arcade Technician advertising on Craigslist. He is a known thief and scam artist. He will hack your arcade game or pinball machine and steal your cash. He quotes low but then he can't actually fix anything, so he needs to purchase new parts which doubles your quoted price. Then in a few days your arcade will start on fire and Gregory J. McHugh will not respond to your calls or emails. So you will be out the money and your arcade will be in worse shape than when you started. His pinball "repairs" consist of hacking your parts so that your machine will be unfixable by a real tech. He also stinks of onions and is really annoying. Do not let him scam you!!!

DO NOT GET SCAMMED!!!!

Hahahahaha. Read the last sentence. Onions!!!! Hahahaha Man that made me laugh.

There's a guy around here calling himself Pinball Medic that is getting a similar reputation. Bids low, removes stuff that doesn't need to be removed, takes money, can't be found, etc. My company has fixed quite a few of his screwups...

So is the scam that he is stealing parts on top of taking the cash? Or just that he's in over his head? Cause stealing parts in the guise of repair sounds like comedy gold!

Ive seen this guys website a bunch and there just always seemed to be something weird about it. Now that I hear this it explains alot.

In our case, he's in way over his head. He apparently worked for my company for about 3 months (before I worked here), thought he learned enough to do it on his own, and quit. Now he basically screws up games, can't be found, etc. One customer had to threaten a lawsuit (and I think is following through on it) to get his game back. It was an EM pinball picked up (with a deposit of under $200 I think) for a reset issue, and after the threat it got dropped off over a year later in their driveway while they weren't home with tons of pieces disassembled and a couple missing.

They called us to see if we wanted it for parts, and we ended up fixing it up for them. Our company is quite a bit more expensive than most places, but we do pretty good work (or at least I do). Some people try to save a buck by going with a garage mechanic, but you don't always get a knowledgeable or trustworthy guy...

I think that's the case with a lot of people who do pinball or arcade repairs on the side. Especially pinball. I see a lot of people offering repairs who I know don't have the experience to really deliver.

I stopped doing outside repairs a long time ago. Way too much pain for the money.

EDIT: Actually... I would still consider outside work or restorations but you would have to bring the game to me. Most people don't want to do that.

yeah, a fellow klover I know tried to make a few bucks advertising some game repair on CL. He figured he could do a few cap kits, replace some power supplies, and make some money. Then he ended up with some oddball games he needed my help with, and a couple pinballs he had trouble with, and now doesn't do that anymore...

Sucks for people who need their games fixed. A lot of the people who are advertising repairs don't know what they're doing and the people who do know what their doing don't want to work on other people's games because it's not worth the hassle. Obviously this isn't true in every case but it would still suck having a broken game and trying to find someone to fix it. How the hell would you know if the guy you're hiring knows what he's doing or will throw his hands up when the cap kit didn't fix it.

Oh well. I don't need any help fixing my stuff :p

I'm often asked to do local repairs "on the side". I don't. Not only because my boss would probably fire me, but because I rarely have the time or motivation to work on my own shit at home. Why would I want the hassle of dealing with other people's crap? At least at work I get paid for it. I'd still get paid at home, I guess, but then I'd have no down time...

This is the guy I have used for the past 2-3 years. He is incredibly reasonably priced and knows what he is doing.

I just thought the Onion thing was just too classic!!! I have never used this guy. Just funny they used that last comment. It's like they felt the didn't dis him enough they had to bust his chops for being stinky!!!
