Sigh. I finally got a chance to open up the FH I bought last week. The previous owner said it kept stating "Factory Settings Restored" every time she turned it on. I was hoping to replace a few batteries, but of course one can rarely be so lucky.

Thankfully the board is OK and the corrosion is limited to the components side of the board and only around a few 10K ohm resistors below the battery pack. I have cleaned these up.

With that said, I would like the mount a new battery pack elsewhere in the backbox. My question is, in doing so, where would the red/black wires coming from the battery pack solder to the board?

Thanks, but I was hoping someone would answer the question I posed. I already have a battery pack and an unlimited supply of AAs. I don't mind replacing the batteries in my pins and I really don't see a need to pay $30 to accomplish the same task. The NVRAM is a nice solution for some, but I really want to utilize what I already have here.

Going to use a 4 battery pack and solder in a diode in the 4th slot for added protection.

There's already a blocking diode on the board. I wouldn't add another one because you'll get another .5V drop for basically no reason. I would check that diode though. Make sure the battery didn't blow up because it's being charged by the board through a shorted blocking diode.

Man... that battery you show isn't even that old. Ugly. I've been converting my WPC games to NVRAM with a memory cap to keep the clock running. Nothing wrong with a battery holder. Just mount it well away from the boards.

I wish I had an unlimited supply of AAs. I would build an AA powered car. That would be awesome!

Hahah. Yeh, it had a 2008 expiration and the bottom was blown open. I am VERY VERY lucky that the damage was minimal and cleaned up with some vinegar.

I will check the diode, but I was getting 4.4V across the board soldering points after I installed it, so maybe you're onto something. Odd that the middle battery took the brunt of the damage.

Nice score. What kind of condition is the playfield in? I was hoping you would pass on it, I was next in line. If you ever want to move it let me know.

It's gorgeous. Only thing is needs is 4 wedge lamp sockets and some work on Rudy's eyes. Went through all the tests yesterday after doing the battery mod and it was 100% otherwise.

I have no intention on this one leaving. One of my faves and the kids will be sure to enjoy it too.

Super jealous. It's one of my favorites as well.
I was sick and trying to sleep it off otherwise it would have been mine. I woke up to the ad, gave the lady a call and she said you had first dibs. Really nice lady, I wish all sellers were like her.
