Ok so I just finished my playfield swap on my funhouse, record time of 15 hours by myself
So my fh is now back to its original glory with the ip clear coated pf. I also lucked out and everything is working but one little problem and it only act up once in a while, not a constant error. So during play I lock the first ball and the game acts like I drained a ball, game then kicks out ball 2 but it should still be ball 1. locked ball stays in the lock then game kicks out 2 balls??? Wtf? All switches test good in test mode.
Before the pf swap it never did this at all. Sometimes when Rudy is sleeping the lock will kick out both balls and he wakes up? Wierd, I can normally figure all this shit out but this time I'm pulling my hair out, has to be wire or something to do with the swap. Any ideas? This is driving me so crazy I'm neglecting my weekend yard work and skipping meals, ha ha.

Bad connector

So far it's looking like loose wires in the CPU j204 connector, kind of in and out connection in test mode!

Edit, fail, nope still doing the same thing

Sometimes a factory reset is needed to clear goofy behavior. You could pull the batteries for a few minutes and that will clear the memory and hopefully staighten it out.

You will need to set the game back up, as in 5 balls, pricing, and difficulty settings.

Good luck!

Roms?

What about newer roms?, my game still has rev 2 in it and I see it's up to 9 now.
Just don't understand how everything was working fine before the swap and now
This glitch. Goofy thing is that it doesn't always do it, so random it's driving me mad.

Missing diode somewhere maybe?

diode

well I didnt de-solder anything when i did the swap. I had everything off the back and right back onto the underside of the new PF in under 4 hours. it then went back into the cab and I had it under power in 2 more hours. Im going to try the take the battery out trick and let the roms re set, mean while I have the V9H rom and new sound rom on order and will upgrade them. I also ordered new connectors for the cpu board because I found a few bad switch connections there. It could be that some of the switch connections are in and out of contact during game play causing the problem.

Yeah, could be a cold solder joint on something. Check your headers and maybe clean the pins.

connectors

well im hoping its bad IDC connectors, got some on order. the little wire ends in them dont look good and I can get misleading readings in switch test if I wiggle them. any movement at all and I think im in and out of contact.

Newer ROMs won't help.

I hate to say the obvious, but if it was okay before you worked on it. You need to go over your work.

I know it's frustrating and you've gone over it a gazillion times. But you are missing something and just not seeing it.

LTG :)

wires

im sure its the bottom cpu connectors, will post after the new ones get here and i rewire them, i also re soldered all of them in case there was a cold joint

Just out of curiosity, when did you get your new playfield. Is this an older one, or one of the fresh off the line playfields IP is supposed to be running this year. Didn't know if they were available yet or not.

bad cpu board

I think I lost my cpu board, tons of wacky ground short errors all over the place. waiting for my new connectors to get here then will try a cpu swap from another pin. the funhouse cpu board has some acid damage and some of the damage is all over 1 IC chip

I would try your old CPU in a different game if you can first.

If there is problems on your playfield and you put a good CPU in, you'll blow that one up too.

If your old CPU has same issues in a different game, then go with the good CPU in your game.

board swap

ok so i took your advise, took my funhouse cpu board out, swapped roms and put it into my party zone, works perfect. so now the funhouse board is good. where the hell are the shorts coming from? they are actualy more lines shorted now than yesterday, seems to be getting worse. I cant see anything wrong with the wiring or components. I didnt de solder anything but the jets and I labeled every wire before hand. all switch short errors is what I get.

You'll get that if you cross a GI or controlled lamp with a switch line. My buddy got me one day with a jumper wire between switch line and a lamp line. We used to a lot of fun at work!!!

Update

Ok so I reset all chips on the CPU board, reset all connectors, added new connectors to the CPU wires and fired it up. No errors and is working perfect, cross my fingers, so far so Good.
