"fun" with megatouch gold

ok, here is the update on how this is coming along...

i did manage to get the image and get it written to my 1gb cf card. of course the bios battery had died and i had no ps2 keyboard handy. eventually got a keyboard and a new battery and the bios recognizes and boots from the cf card, but it does not boot into the game....

all this was done connected to an external monitor because the telco appeared to be dead. made all the right noises, but no pic, and no collapse when powered off. after about an hour of me having no clue where to go, and watching a movie while working on this thing, i noticed the telco finally collapsed when i powered it off. so i hooked it up to see a very dim picture. apparently it was real pissed about not being powered up for six or seven years and took its sweet time coming back to life. woohooo, i actually like doing cap kits for some strange reason.

but anyway, back to the main story. i tried every combo of jumper positions but no game, sometimes it gets caught in a reboot loop, sometimes it just hangs after it says,

NO FLASH

megaTouch MAXX, pg3004-01 v3.00 (why does titanium say maxx?)

key rev sa305274
date 12/03/01
desc usa-std

a couple times when i wiggled the io board during bootup it would give an error and hang about not finding .\misc\vbbfont0.smk. which is on the cf card.

is there a cap kit for the motherboard? it seems to not want to boot for about the first 10-15 minutes, kinda like the monitor, but not as bad. now that i think about it maybe I should meter the power supply.

i probably won't mess with it again until i do the cap kit on saturday. i'll be reading whatever repair threads i can find,

any suggestions?

memory ordered

hopefully it gets here quick. the seller is here in jersey.

at least now it makes sense, i feel like a dumbass for not even looking at the memory test when it booted.

Ah cool, yeah you might have found the problem

Was your machine originally a gold or upgraded to gold? Hdd or cd originally?
Good luck

I got it with the gold HDD that didn't boot. Not sure what it was originally, but I'll bet it wasn't a hard drive gold. I got it in a package deal with a megatouch 4 that worked.

Did the early XL versions work with only 8 megs of ram?

Well, the memory arrived yesterday and it works great, finally. Now on to a mountain of little things to take care of.

The CPU fan is dead
One cap blew on the monitor after I did the kit, but it still works
Gotta find the nuts that hold the monitor assembly in place...
One of the side panels swelled up. Would like to replace both with real wood, but I don't think anyplace sells a 1"x14"x2' board.
I have dollar bill acceptor taking up space in one of my parts boxes that could go in this thing, gotta figure out how to wire it up.
Need to find a good place to keep this thing.
Etc

Thanks for all the help guys.
