I've been watching some videos on youtube lately. Anyone ever use a flyback for fun; like building a jacob's ladder? I've been thinking of Frankensteining my Barcade (Bar. Garage,
Arcade) and looking for some insight.

I've tried the jacob's ladder, but I could never get it to work. I'm wondering if there isn't some important piece of information or equipment that's been withheld from the video.

Unless you got a flyback that is labeled easily I think the most difficult part would be locating the primary and secondary coils without running a load on it. Besides that a lot of folks made ones that run on 555 timers, looks interesting. Just keep searching around, there is plenty of information and different versions, but they will always say that the Neon lamp transformers are easier to use.

Easiest way to do it is just picking up an old neon sign transformer. Most places just throw them away.

I've got a 9KV, 12KV, and my favorite... 15KV. ... I have dropped that 15KV in my lap before though, with it plugged in. Fastest I've ever -tried- getting out of a chair. 15KV across the groin will motivate the hell out of you. While I was trying to get out of the chair fast, just kinda did the funky chicken for about 10 seconds until the chair finally fell over and I was freed.

Anywho, makes a GREAT jacob's ladder.

Another pointer, best to put it in/under a glass case or something because they're very sensitive to any breezes.
