Hey,

I picked up a cheap touchscreen point of sale kiosk... I originally planned to hack it up for a different project, but it seemed kinda interesting as-is, so I was thinking about loading up some arcade style games, sorta like a megatouch. It's about 5 years old, running Android 6 on an industrial Rockchip board (has USB ports, etc).

I personally don't play games on my phone, so I really don't have any idea of what's out there. Most games I've tried are mind numbingly boring, where you do something requiring no skill or thought, and they give you a few coins. Then you watch an ad for a couple more coins, and they try to get you to buy coins for real money so you can do the same boring thing but with a different skin or something.

Anyone have suggestions for Android games that are actually fun, ideally can be played offline and not full of ads and micro transactions? E.g. something I could leave running unattended for people to play during an arcade party? The kiosk has a 22" vertical touchscreen, so the game has to play vertically, and can't use an accelerometer for tilt mechanics (don't want anyone tipping over the kiosk!)

Thanks,
DogP

Crossy Roads is a Frogger type game, and will play in vertical or horizontal.

They ended up making a redemption game version of it with a single button (moves forward or forward diagonally).

The normal app version you can move sideways or back a bit.

Different characters change the theme.

I've got these free for IPhone. I think they are available for android . Some are close copies others are reimagined. Nice little boredom eliminators.

If you are looking for a more recent ( non pole position era ) driving game, Riptide Gp is similar to Hydrothunder. **Edited to add- not sure if it uses motion controls. It's been awhile since I played it.

Cool, thanks guys!

Because of the arcade versions, I had tried Crossy Road, as well as Doodle Jump and Temple Run... those (and Flappy Bird) were sorta the inspiration for not hacking up this cabinet. Though it turns out that Doodle Jump and Temple Run both require tilt controls, so those didn't work.

Thanks for the ideas so far... I'll give that Pinball game a shot, and see if I can track down some of those iPhone games on Android. Unfortunately I don't think Riptide GP will work since that looks to play horizontally.

The games I've tried so far that work decently well and are at least semi-entertaining:
Candy Crush
Crossy Road
Draw Climber
Ordia (this is is actually pretty good)
Race.io
Sonic Dash
Sonic Dash 2
Strike Force
Wall Kickers

If anyone's got other ideas, please keep them coming!

Thanks,

Im going to list some android games that could be fun. Some are very old and I hope some of these can run properly on it. You may have a one time purchase on some and then unlimited use but these were entertaining:

Pocket God
Raiden Legacy
Crush the Castle
Grand theft auto 3
Goat Simulator(very funny and ridiculous)

There are some board game or classic gamr styled ones that are great:
Arcane Quest(hero quest clone)
Talisman
Jenga
