About a week ago I won this auction for a full zookeeper pcb set (minus the coin board and metal plate):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...79&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123#ht_9660wt_996

The auction says it's tested and working (and the seller said it was pulled from a working machine), but I don't have any way of testing it. So, if it doesn't work, please don't blame me.

Now that I've got it in front of me, I think I'm in over my head. I've got a harness that was of a Taito game they released a few years after ZK (10 yard fight)... and it's almost the same pinout... but it's a bit much for me to handle. Add that to the reputation these boards have for not working... and I think i'd rather have one of the multi taito boards and run ZK off of that. They seem a lot more plug-and-play and I could use a jamma harness.

The boards are in pretty good shape. Everything appears to be there. I'll include some brand new ribbon cables that I got from Bob Roberts, as well. It doesn't include the longer one that goes behind the boards, but it has all the others.

I hate to give you the bad news, but that isn't a ZK ROM board you have there, It's a QIX ROM board(the big one)

It's possible you have a working QIX set there, but It's certainly not a working ZK set.

Hmm... Good to know. I genuinely didn't know.

Can't the roms be replaced with zookeeper roms, though? Some of the roms do have copyrights of 1981 (QQ) and some 1982 (ZA). So, it's probably been pieced from different sets. It's got the additional video expansion board.

You need to make some extra modifications to the sound board I think? as well as having the correct ROMS in place.

There's a thread here somewhere that explains how to do It.

Yup.. The mod is just soldering (2) jumpers for the sound pcb.. You have the small ZK aux rom board, which is the most important and hardest to find.. The second hardest thing to find is a working CPU pcb.. Does yours have any green corrosion at the bottom near the test switch? If its nice and clean, you may have a winner..

Only harness that will work perfectly is a zookeeper.. You can use a Qix, but you need to make an adapter for the aux pcb.. Just (2) connectors wired together to attach to the aux header pins and rom pcb.. Gotta love eBay sellers.. Heh, worked when pulled? What, 30 years ago?

Yeah. I knew it was a risk when I purchased it. The seller seemed genuine compared to others that I've encountered. Oh well.

There is no corrosion at all around the test switch. Or for any other place for that matter. The battery has been taken out, and there's no acid leak damage that I can see.

The same dude you got your set from had another set for sale that he described as "working" YET, the CPU board DIDN'T have any 4116 RAM chips installed???

I tried to do as much research ahead of time, but I'm still kind of shooting in the dark. I did as much googling as I could... but you might be surprised that there aren't a lot of high quality photos of working zookeeper pcbs and judging by how fast these boards go when they pop up, it's not like I can ask a lot of questions around here.

Hobbyroms.com or find a friend with a burner.

Heh, asked my buddy to burn me a new set of ZK roms months ago.. Still waiting :(

You also need the coin pcb rom hack.. Most ZK sets out there have it, but do a search.. As you'll never get it working without it.

Thanks! I sent an email to hobby roms.

It looks like i'd need 11 2732 eproms (ZA12-ZA19, ZA25-ZA27). When I get them, I'll remove the qix roms from the data/io board. Is there any other rom's I'll need?

Also, does anyone have a better scan of the wiring diagram that's in the manual? I can't quite make out the words on it.

You'll also have to change the jumper packs on that Qix rom board to Zoo Keeper as the roms are larger files for Zoo Keeper and a different rom type (2732 for ZK, 2716 for Qix). I don't know if those jumper packs are documented out there or not. They are the small black boxes with "26-00002", "-016" on them.

Not the answer you want to hear, but from a Zoo Keeper rom board.

From the looks of it, they are little jumper packs, I suppose you could make your own with a socket and some jumpers, I'll try to get a picture of one if you're really interested.

Is anyone interested in buying these PCBs? I don't have time to try to fix them and the multi board I got is working fine in my ZK cabinet.

I'm open to any offers, and can ship pretty quickly. I'll willing to let them go for much less than I bought them for.
