FT: My Battlezone or Soda Machine for a Working 27" Med Res Monitor (Sacramento)

Hey Gang,

Picked up a pair of atari rush the rocks alcatraz edition off of craigslist today.

One needs a monitor.

I'm looking to trade my intermitantly working ur battlezone or my fully working 1960's bottle soda machine for a good working 27" med res monitor.

i'm in cameron park.

one of the previous owners threw the tube out.

it is a wg 27k7501 chassis, i only looked at it briefly, one of the traces is slightly lifted.

Lol, I was watching that thing being relisted and fighting the temptation to see how low he'd go on it. I'm almost sure r5g in Reno had a really nice one not too long ago for a decent price, I'll PM him a link to this thread. Did the seller give you a good deal on it? He hadn't come down much the last times it was reposted.

i gave him $600 for the pair.

i could have gotten them lower, but he started pulling out extra parts.

gave me 2 cf card adapters with cards loaded already. at least 1 extra feedback motor, manuals, etc...

as always, we will see how good the deal was as time goes on, but i've been wanting a pair for at least the last 10 years.

so just to clarify are you missing the entire monitor or do you have the frame and chassis but are just missing the tube? If just the tube they are not impossible to find. I think there are actually some TV's that used that exact same tube number.

it looks to be missing the tube and the yoke, but the chassis is of unknown condition.

i saw on another thread that sharp brand tvs use the same tube. i will be off to the thrift store tomorrow.

it would be nice to get a fully working one, clear out a game or soda machine and then work on having a working spare.

Hello Greg,

First off, I have no idea who used to own those machines before the guy you got them from ;)

I think the seller's name is Denny?

About 1 1/2 years ago I traded him my (2) linked RTRAC + a Pac-Man for his Tron and Donkey Kong (which the DK monitor died only a couple weeks later, btw). I think he had a couple nice pins, another DK, Stargate and maybe a Q Bert?

At the time I knew very little about monitor repairs and never checked out the KLOV forums - only know slightly more nowadays, lol. I used to go to a local repair place - Crown Amusement in Sacramento. The owner/repair guy Mike is a nice guy and seems to really know his stuff, but on the high end for cost to repair stuff.....

I got the (2) machines about 3 1/2 or 4 years ago. Both machines were dead when I got them. I bought new power supplies and the upgrade flash drives in case the hard drives crashed. If I recall, both hard drives actually worked fine and one of the flash drives works fine but the other had a corrupt file or something. I bought the flash drives off eBay as is. I also bought a couple spare feedback steering motors (untested) and a tv adapter thinking it would work that I gave him along with an older 27" tv. Later found out that those don't work well if at all.

Once I replaced the power supplies both machines fired up and worked except the colors were off on the monitors. One showed mainly blue and the other mainly green. I took both monitors to Crown to repair. One of them he got working nicely, the other after a 1/2 hour or so of messing with it (+ $50) and doing a rejuvenate it was determined that the tube was bad. He basically said toss the tube and keep the frame/chassis in case we could find another tube, unfortunately he did not have any spares. A few months later Mike at Crown called me (after I traded away) and said he got a couple monitors in, but wanted $250 for one.

In a bind I guess $250 isn't bad for a working 27" Med. Res. monitor....but if you can find a cheap donor tube that would probably be best. As far as I know the chassis should be all good. I suppose you could swap out with the chassis to test in the working monitor?

Well, enjoy - those are a couple fun beasts! The stereo sounds, head to head driving...good times!!

There are a handful of collectors in the Sacramento area (3 of us already posted here). Keep us posted on what you find with the tube. And.....

See Ya,

awesome,

glad to meet you. i used to hang out here years ago and now i've got the arcade bug again. LOL.

great to hear the history of my machines. i didn't have time to look for a tv today, but i will start tomorrow.

years ago i built a mame machine using a tv tube and a chassis from 8liners, so with that little bit of experience under my belt, i'm hoping that the swap won't be so bad.

my little ones are really having a great time with the one working machine and hope to be head to head soon.
