FS: Street Fighter Rainbow (or other strange) Hack See post #12 for more info

Board is SOLD

Please see post #12 in this thread for clearer information about this board. The
following description is incorrect, please refer to post #12.

I've got a Rainbow hack of SF2 Champion Edition for sale. This hack allows character changing by pressing Start, faster speed, multiple fireballs, air moves (fireballs, flashkicks, etc) and some attacks have longer range like the Shoryuken. There are two versions of the Rainbow Hack, and while I don't know which one is A and which one is B, this one is a lesser known one from what I understand.

The versions are characterized by the hadoken fireballs.

The hack that I am more familiar with is like this: First of all the fireballs track, so they go high or low depending on the enemy's position. Also, Light punch throws a very very slow one, medium throws a 'fierce' speed (as if hitting fierce on the regular game) one, and hitting fierce punch throws a lightning fast fireball. Also, up to 5 or 6 fireballs/sonic booms can be tossed at the same time.

The one I am selling is the other one. The one I have, the fireballs come out in twos and from what I can tell, the speed is more akin to a regular SF2CE fireball. Airmoves are available as well.

Asking $65 shipped anywhere in the US. International shipping will of course be more, but I prefer to avoid international shipping. Payment preffered by PayPal.

I would be interested in this if I don't already have one of them, I have to pull my CE boots and check them to figure out what I have and what's missing. I know I've got a red wave and at least one rainbow, but there might be a couple. Was gonna hit the storage unit at some point soon to grab the other Time Killers control panel for refurbing, I'll do a quick inventory at that point and throw them into a cab to see what's there.

No problem. Let me know. :)

Having just dipped into mame to check, it seems the two different rainbow sets have different title screens. One of them starts with the normal blue/yellow and then switches to multicolor, and the other one starts multicolor and stays the same. While I'm trying to figure out which board I have (got it out of storage, the stickers on the swap roms say "accelerator part 2", but when i try to put it in the only working cab I have I just get a red-tinted scrren) if you have the ability to see which title screen this one is, it'd make it easy to figure out which one I have. Not meaning to be a pain, just trying to expedite it once I can figure out which board I have.

of course! That is a perfectly valid request. I may not have time tonite to put it into a cab, but I will do so ASAP and let you know.

ok just a teeny update, I went ahead and fired up MAME just to check something before taking apart my mamepc to slap in the Sf2 board, and it seems there are 3 sets for SF2 Rainbow edition, not two as I thought before. (and possibly a 4th, I really don't know!)

Set 1: (sf2rb.zip) The logo goes from Rainbow colors to Rainbow Colors.
Set 2: (sf2rb2.zip)Logo goes from normal blue-green to Metallic Blueish color.
Set 3: (sf2rb3.zip) logo goes from Rainbow to Rainbow.

However, there are some more differences, Set 3 is the only version (of the sf2rb# ROMs I have) that features Ryu's long reaching feirce Shoryuken. Sets 1 and 2 DO NOT have this. Secondly, I also found the double fireball to be missing in all 3 ROMs I tried. If I remember correctly, the board I have features a double hadoken fireball, meaning when it's fired, two hadoken's appear, one above the other, not in a line.

I have some digging to do. I'm going to have to check all the sf2ce hacks I have to see just which one this is! Oh no... poor me. I have to play some games. Pray for me. :p

Alright, I stuck my board into the cab and booted it. I dont want to sound like I found some kind of weird pot of gold, but I tried all of these hacks and none of them matched my board exactly:

sf2accp2.zip - Accelerator Pt II - Shows "Accelerator Pt. II" on title screen. As well as "TEST RON" and a phone number on the logo screen (which is a rainbow logo) Slow fireball is normal, med FB goes up, fierce FB goes down. Long Dragon Punch, long/fast Hurricane kick
sf2koryu.zip - Taiwanese - definitely not it.
sf2m1.zip - Not working in MAME
sf2m2.zip - Doesn't show any likenesses to any hacks, mine or otherwise.
sf2m3.zip - Not work working in MAME
sf2m4.zip - Japanese locale, Rainbow/Rainbow logo, double fireball like I mentioned, long DP, long HK. fierce DP floats after contact. Kind of a cool effect.
sf2m5.zip - World locale, just like M4 except BG/Blue Metal logo, otherwise very similar.
sf2m6.zip - Taiwanese board similar to koryu
sf2m7.zip - Norm/Blue Metal logo, excluding US/Can/Mex/JPN, just like M4
sf2mdt.zip - Not working in MAME
sf2rb.zip - Rainbow set 1 - Very slow FB, fast medium, SUPERfast fierce FB. Rainbow to Rainbow logo.
sf2rb2.zip - Rainbow set 2 (blue metal logo)
sf2rb3.zip - Rainbow Set 3 (the one im most familiar with): Just like RB set 1, except has a long reaching fierce DP.
sf2red.zip - Red Wave - red logo, definitely not the one I have.
sf2v004.zip crazy speed, not the one I have.
sf2yyc.zip - strange VS screen, VS picture is all garbled. Otherwise, not the one I have.

So, on to the board I have: It comes up as a "world" game. The warning at the beginning states that the game is for use in all countries EXCLUDING the US, Canada, Japan and Mexico.

My title screen goes from the normal Blue/Green to the Rainbow color logo. I was wrong about the fireballs being double. I'll have to update the first post. It is NOT a double fireball, it is a SINGLE fireball, but it's effect cycles. The beginning of the cycle is random, it seems. Fireballs are normal speed, but can go one of 3 ways, always in order but the starting direction is random. A fireball can go straight to the opponent at the chosen speed (quick/med/fierce) but it will wobble up and down (imagine a frequency, with peaks and valleys), a fireball can 'float' upward and hit the opponent 'in the face', as it were, at the chosen speed, or the fireball can go down toward the feet at the chosen speed. It's very strange. The dragon punch on my board is also long reaching when done with fierce.

I have no idea of my board revision is uncommon, but if anyone has seen one like this, and you know which ROM it corresponds to (or that it SHOULD correspond to) let me know.

Wow man, way more research than I was expecting, looks like you had a hell of a long afternoon trying to figure this out. All roads seem to point to there's no way I have this one, I'll PM you for paypal info...I'm so glad I'm trying to get a 6 to 1 multi board adapter for this project. :)

Got here today completely intact, board is nice and clean. Threw it into the BloodStorm (my only working cab atm) and it plays great, now I just have to finish putting the proper SF cab together to actually use the kick buttons. :) Definitely a strange version, I just did a quick round of Ken & E Honda and the sine wave fireball pattern is a new one on me, it's pretty neat. Thanks for all the research and answering questions, I can't wait to get this thing in a proper cab. :)
