FS: Star Wars boardset, Amplifone HV board

From this day forward, all parts I sell are considered shelf aged and well seasoned only. This makes it all better now doesn't it? Damn Frizzy, you're a genius

So... just to be a pain in the ass (I mean... we all know I am... and I have to live up to the name, right?)...

When...exactly...does a part become something purchased "off the shelf"... I mean, most parts come from... PARTED cabs these days. How many days is kosher it to wait... before you purchase a part from someone who has one to sell... that pulled it out of a cab he parted.

A month? Year? 5 years?

I mean this is a little silly. Sure... you don't want to encourage people to part out their machines, but hell, if someone makes that decision (THEY ARE A BIG BOY YA KNOW)... and if that person has a part I need and that part isn't available anywhere else... it would be asinine NOT to purchase that part REGARDLESS of how long that part sat on a shelf.

Just to cover my ass... in the future... I;m asking every mother-f***er I purchase ANYTHING from to set that bastard on a shelf overnight... that way I can honestly say I bought that bitch "off the shelf".

:D

There is a huge difference between buying parts that have been sitting on an ops shelf for several years and buying parts from someone on here( someone that is "supposed" to be a collector of these machines ) telling everyone that they will part the game if no one buys it whole. Half the time, as soon as you see that statement, there are a couple people immediately posting that they are interested in parts X, Y , and Z if the game is parted. If you can't see the issue with that, or you really think it would be asinine not to buy that part, or that the part will never show up again, then you are part of the problem. What you and the rest of the people on here that agree with you keep forgetting is that this is a COLLECTORS forum attached the PRESERVATION society. Make up your minds, are you collectors/preservationists or just game owning hacks ?

Ok. Suppose there are two guys that each have a Centipede machine. Both cabinets are 8.5/10, working, minimal screen burn, cap kits, the works. First guy makes a thread "Parting out a working Centipede", posts pics of the complete working game, and says I posted an ad on CL yesterday, but it didn't sell, make me an offer on what you need. People come out of the woodwork and say "I'll take this", "I'll take that". Drama ensues for destroying a working classic even though others can be completed. Seller posts pics of burning cab, doghouse cab, whatever. Threads get deleted, users get banned, etc.

Second guy posts "Parts for sale - Centipede, Ms Pac, etc", posts some pics of some parts removed from the Centipede game as well as some parts from other games. Guy says he bought them from an op and sold his game before he got around to restoring it. People buy the parts, no drama. A month later he posts some more parts, and this cycle continues until he is left with an empty cab that he chops into pieces and bundles up for the garbage man. Doesn't speak a word to anybody about getting rid of the cabinet, in fact no one knows he ever had it.

The point is we really can't know whether we're buying "conflict free" parts. But in the first case we know the guy was deliberately trying to piss in our cornflakes*.

* Frizz, since you don't understand idioms, the first guy wasn't *actually* urinating in anyone's breakfast, he was trying to upset anyone that would take the bait. :D

That is grasping at straws I think. Nomenclature, or whatever. there is no difference to me. Honestly, I would rather have the parts from the working game all thing considered. If I remember right, you bought some parts from something I parted. (could be wrong) I just did not make the post as parting Tempest so it is ok I guess. I like you Bungy, I dont want you to think I am attacking you just I am trying to figure out what is the difference on how long the parts need to sit to be OK.

I did qualify my scenario by saying the part was "not available anywhere". I mean, if someone was parting an Asteroids and I needed a bezel, I would by one elsewhere before buying one parted from a good cab... and you know very well that I discourage people from parting cabs... but ultimately, if a cab is being parted and the guy has an unobtainable part I am looking for... I'm buying. That is how I collect and preserve MY cabinets.

Now this is all hypothetical as the games I have tend to have parts that are available... and I've NEVER purchased a part from someone who recently parted out a cab needlessly (well, I've never done so knowingly anyway)... but you already deemed me "part of the problem" months ago... and for what I am not sure...

it seems that guys are arguing just for the sake of arguing.

It is fairly clear what arc's position is, and what he means. If you need someone to decipher it, how do you manage to brush your own teeth?

You don't have to agree with him. Most people in this thread are guys I hold in very high regard and I am of the opinion they do a lot of good in our hobby.

I don't see how someone can say that arc's position is a bad one. Trying to keep as many working games out there is a fine goal.

anyway, the odd approaches to try to get arc to define every conceivable possibility seem to be a waste of time.

I don't take anything here personally, so no worries. I guess what I'm getting at is I don't want to be part of killing a perfectly fine working game. Yes, I need parts for my games too, but I don't do background checks on the parts I buy or people I buy from. I can't control what people do with their games, and I don't want to. Like Arc, I have my opinion about it, but I am more forgiving and less vocal. There are certain people I don't buy from, but I'm not going to tell them what to do with their games. And even if I did, so what, it's still just my opinion and I should be told to sod off if the person doesn't like it. The best I can do is restore the games I have the best I can, and keep them until I die and they get willed to worthy KLOV'ers.

BTW, what did I buy from you that was from a parted out game? The only thing I have on my list is 3 non working 4900 chassis that I bought from you in June. I keep a very detailed spreadsheet of what I buy and from who and when, but that's all I see from you. Just wondering because I could have overlooked it.

Those were OK. They were off my shelves. :)

The best thing about bringing my machines back to life with used parts is, If I ever decided to part my machines it would be ok since the parts are not original to the cabinet:D

All my parts sellers have sent me Pm's today. All the parts have been shelved;)

I have tried to talk people out of parting nice machines many many times. Difference is I dont harass them. The cabinets are there property they can do whatever they want with them.

Bottom line the world will still keep turning if ArcRevival doesnt approve:rolleyes:

When I wake up tomorrow I will again look for the game parts I need.

I think this is the first time on KLOV that a seller has hijacked his own FS thread...

The irony is that by Arc denying DJW access to these "preservationist friendly" parts, he is driving him to the sellers he detests him from buying from in the first place.

It makes a point, but one that seems counter to Arc's cause.
