Hey-
This will allow you to plug a Gravitar PCB into your Space Duel cabinet and play it using your Space Duel control panel.
It beats trying to find a Gravitar control panel!!

$35 shipped to you in the continental US. Tested working. Professional-looking if I must say so myself...

Built from William Boucher's directions available online:

OK-

I have more than one and am actually ordering some more parts.
Let me know if you're interested and I should be able to make more in the next week or two.

Well, my Gravitar PCB went on the fritz, so I sold my adapter while my PCB was undergoing warranty surgery.

Flash-forward-

My board is on the way back and I bought enough parts to make a few more adapters (including one for me!).

So, I have a couple more I can sell-

$30 shipped to the continental US-

Thanks!
Kerry

I'll need a Gravitar cab to test. I'll pay freight charges... :)

Actually, that could be done, but it would be a little more complicated. (Space Duel in Gravitar cabinet).

The concept here is that the video and power signals to the PCB connectors are the same. It's the control panel that's wired differently.

Pins K, 10, and L on the large PCB connector map to left, thrust, and shields inputs for player 1 on Space Duel. Gravitar doesn't use these for anything, so the connector isn't populated at those positions.

So, you could make an adapter for the OTHER 9 pins and provide 3 additional wires/contacts that would plug into the connector housing at the PCB. A mini-harness if you will.

It wouldn't look too hacked if you took a little time. The three pin mini-harness would be an addendum to the harness, leaving a small 3 pin connector accessible near the control panel plug. Then the adapter would go from a 12 pin at the control panel side to a 12 pin and a 3 pin at the harness side.

You would still only be able to play a 1-player Space Duel game because you have only one set of controls! That's all right though- I rarely play side-by-side with anyone.

So anyway, yes. More complicated, but Space Duel is pretty cool. The artwork is nice on both cabinets, but Gravitar is not as common.

Thanks for the idea! I hadn't thought about it.

Reseated the chips and got my new Gravitar board working yesterday and was able to play it for the first time thanks to your adapter! Thanks again- it works like a charm. I was even able to enter inside the 8k point planet at the right spot due to the games coding glich. Very cool.

While installing the grav board I also noticed that my space duel was made in Ireland, which explains the factory wood grain sides. Anyone else have an Irish SD out there? I know there are some BZs and some BW kits that were also made there.

Just played some more Gravitar--its definitely an ass-kicker (as in mine). So far, I feel like the ice cream cone arm on the giant voltron robot in that one episode of Venture Bros.

I'm gonna bump this just in case anybody new wants an adapter in the last 6 months.

I know there isn't a ton of Gravitar boards out there, but if you've got a Space Duel and can get a Gravitar PCB, this is the next best thing to a dedicated.

A couple of guys just recently asked for an adapter, so I picked up enough stuff to make a few extra.

$30 shipped in the continental US.

PS- I'm up to about 238K for a high score on mine. Progress has leveled off a good bit. Very frustrating to make it to a certain point and lose 6 or 7 men on one bad world.

I could use a second one, send me a PayPal invoice.
