I originally did these and posted in the RGVAC newsgroup in 2004, long before I joined the KLOV forums, so this can't even be called a bump. For the most part this is a cut and paste of my RGVAC post from back then, same pricing except for updated shipping costs. This is not a new run, but remaining from my first (and only) run.
First off, I want to thank Scott Evans for allowing me to lease the original art work. Without his cooperation, I would not have attempted this project. THANK YOU SCOTT!!
I've taken the liberty of calling these reprints rather than reproductions as I've used the original artwork and color codes. These are silk-screened on plexiglas. Two reasons I chose plexi over glass; cost and preserving the value of original marquees. The plexi was laser cut and are perfect matches for length and width. The thickness of a glass original (with paint) was measured at 0.188". Unless I put in a special order for 1000 pounds of plexi, I could not get plexi at that thickness. My closest choices were 0.175" or 0.200". I felt being under thick was better than over thick and went with the 0.175". With the paint it's even closer to the original. The silk screening matches the original, five colors, plus an overall white backing coat. The (non-screened) front sides all still have backing paper on them for protection. All screened sides will be checked to verify no scratches before packing & shipping. There was a paint drying issue and I have to partially pull up the protective backing to be sure the potential problem area is ok. The backing paper will be put back down, but you'll be able to tell it was partially pulled up to check. Even though I was able to use the original art work and color codes, it's still amazingly difficult to color match a 20+ year old item. The sample we used for verification had nicotine stains. Also, colors don't reflect the same across plexi and glass. Finally, colors age from their original tone over time. The light blue caused the most problems, and I'm sure some people will not be satisfied with it. We did the best we could. Even with the original color codes, we had at least 10 color match attempts on the light blue alone. The backround color is not black, it's really a very dark blue. When backlit, the original does show the blue a little more in the middle where the light hits it more (you can see in the pics).
I learned a lot about printing going through this project. To any of the repro people out there, don't worry about new competition; I don't want to do this again. Based on what I went through and how long it took (over six months), I doubt I'll ever try one again. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I won't be able to recoup all my money outlay.
I wish I could have offered them cheaper, but it turned out way more expensive than originally thought. I'm not ripping anyone on shipping, with shipping supplies, I'll actually lose on shipping to the west coast. I'll wait a week or so on personal checks to clear. Other forms of payment I'll do all I can to ship within 2 business days. You are more than welcome to pick up in person to save all shipping charges. Pricing: The price is $56 for the first, $54 for the second and $52 for the 3rd and beyond (plus shipping). Shipping: $8.25 for one inside the USA, by USPS Priority w/confirmation. Shipping quotes will be needed for multiple or shipping outside the USA.
PRICE: $64.25 shipped, cash, check (personal check ok), money order, cashier's check, or non-credit card paypal marked personal gift. Paypal is [email protected]
PRICE: $66.48 shipped, paypal other than described above. Paypal is [email protected]. (If you pay here, please email me at [email protected] and let me know as I rarely check the email on this account).
Here's more pics than what's shown below: http://joem.joesarcade.com/Quantum_marquee/Quantum_marquee.html. I am not trying to hide any differences, that's why I have a pic of an original along with the reprint. If you note differences, it because of flaking on the original. Where applicable, the original is on the bottom or left. I think they came out great, but if you do not like what you read in terms of the process described here or see in color matching, then by all means, skip it. Any questions, let me know.
