I recently purchased a UN Sqaudron Jamma board (sold as-is) and don't have the time/experience to fix it. You probably do, so here is your chance at a great game for cheap!

The 2 issues are:

- All text does not display: I reseated all of the Roms and Board, but still nothing. All other graphics seem fine from what I've played, there's just not HUD, insert coin text, dialogue, etc. It's a great looking game, and probably would've kept it anyway if it wasn't for the next issue.

- No Sound: This might just be a simple fix or an issue with my cabinet, but like I said - I really dont want to screw around with my cab since my other half dozen boards work fine and I don't have the electrical knowledge to attempt fixing it. mrbill2084 was nice enough to reply to my tech thread and mentioned my cab might be missing voltages -5v and +12v. Not really sure what that means or how to even wire that without making my hair stand up.

Make me an offer, if it's good I will probably sell but in the meantime am looking into the voltage issue. Also please PM for pics - which I will likely post later today. Amazing game, wish I could play in it's entirety.

All it means is the game is obviously going to sell for lower than it's worth but I'm not selling it for $5. Hard for me to put a price on it since I don't know the work involved.

... -5 isn't used on this game either so it's not that. ..... Oliver

I have a UN Squadron CPS-1 game. Looks like this board (n1.). And, Alpha1 is correct: U.N. Squadron does not need the -5V line (Pins #E & #5) to work. (n2.)

I just read your tech thread. (n3.) The sound problem bay be a simple fix. The sound on a CAPCOM CPS-1 game is controlled by the little, white, circular VR1 resistor located near the BIG black heat sink comb. Look for the VR1 resistor on the bottom board, up font, near the JAMA edge connector side of the board. (You can see the VR1 resistor in the UN SQUADRON PCB image.) Have you tried adjusting the VR1 resistor? If it works then you should hear sound. If it does not work then separate the game board (the top board) and try it with another bottom board, one that you know works fine, and see if you get sound. (n1, n4.)

Hope this info helps with the sound issue.

That helped me with my KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND I got a while back off eBay. It came with a bad VR1 resistor; so, the sound would play fine for a few minutes and then stop working or stop working whenever I would adjust the sound. I had to swap bottom boards (system boards), temporarily, with another known good system board to fix the sound issue. I still have to fix the VR1 on that KOR system board.

Wow, thanks for the detailed help. I dont want to turn this into a tech thread for the sake of the forum, but I just tried adjusting the VR1 resistor and still no sound, but my speakers do start to buzz a bit when its turned all the way left.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to invest in another game with a system board and give that a shot. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Ok. I got 'cha. My KOR sounds the same way when the sound stops working. Here are the part numbers for the system boards--if you need it.

CAPCOM Long System Board PN# 88617A-b (in the UN Squadron Pic.)
CAPCOM Short System Board PN# 89626A-4 (in the Area 88 pic.)

In general, CAPCOM System boars are interchangeable; so, any other CAPCOM CPS-1 game with one of these ought a work.

Later dude,

And, good luck with your F.S. Thread.

By the way, I have both UN SQUADRON and CARRIER-AIR-WING. Great games. Very fun to play. I'd gladly recommend these games to anyone looking for a shooter.
