I'm trying to find a new home for our Q*Bert cabinet. It was originally given to my grandfather's grocery store as a promotion for Mello Yello, and plays the Mello Yello version of the game. It has no coin slots, just a door blank with lock, also through the promotion.

The sides have a few scuffs, and there are some chunks of vinyl/plastic missing off the very front of the joystick area. The Mello Yello can in the cut scene is also misaligned. I think we had that working correctly years ago.

Otherwise, though it isn't mint, it is in very good shape, and everything works. No burn-in that I've noticed. We played it a lot when we were kids, but he was always shut off afterwards. ;)

I am including pics in this post, and I'll reply with a few more.

I'd really like to see this go to someone that would appreciate it for the game, and the fact that this is something of a collectible version of it. I've spent some time reading on the forum here, and I really dig the vibe. Thought about E-baying him, but I liked the level of expertise here.

We're located in Fargo, ND. If you can help arrange shipping, it can be shipped, though I expect not cheaply. And I can't help out much with transporting it even short distances until it warms up (my pickup is distinctly cold-blooded and currently doing a spot-on imitation of a giant snow-bank.)

As for price, I've done a lot of looking for comparable prices, but I'm unsure just how its rarity really affects that, and I know prices flux with the times. I think it's worth somewhere between $500-800, but I suppose what I'm asking is for honest opinions on whether I'm close and what might be a more specific, fair, number.

I'm not looking to make bank on it, but he is finally being sold to help raise some funds for a family member. Please let me know on the thread or by PM if you're interested and/or have thoughts on it. Thanks. (You guys really have a great place here. ;))

Cool version of the game, and even better that there is a backstory. I'd say you're right on the money with your range. Condition is a big factor, and this looks better than most Qberts I've seen. If I didn't already have one, I'd be lowballing you and setting up a time to pick it up tomorrow.

You just earned so many brownie points with so many people by being fair, reasonable, honest, and not acting like a jackass.

I wish you the absolute best with your sale. :)

I am nowhere near North Dakota, but if I wasn't currently out of room in my storage unit I would seriously be considering making an offer on this and having it NAVL'd out to me. :D I'd love to have a nice Q*bert. Don't see too many change hands here in the Seattle area. Either there aren't many of them here or they don't get sold very often. I think $400 is about right for a decent, fully working Q*bert. I could see $500 for this one given the Mello Yello promo.

I just bought a house and will close on it on Tuesday. Getting some work done in the basement rec room before we move in, so my games will be in storage for a little while yet. Sucks that my storage unit is full while I see stuff I want come available. :(

Good luck on the sale.

Very cool. I really think it's in very nice original shape. Also, thanks for sharing the back story. The economy isn't helping arcade sales but IMO you should be able to fetch at least $500 for that machine due to the condition, history and back story.

Bill

Thanks!

I've got a sale pending on it now. Thank you all for the good vibes and the interest!

I'll note the price when he's off to his new home, no problem. As for paperwork, nothing out of the ordinary has survived that I'm aware of. I'd been thinking there was nothing at all, but then I thought to check with my brother, as he played it the most. Turns out there is a manual still with it (it had wandered off to a nearby shelf), but, while very thorough, seems like a basic shop manual. I'm sure a lot of them get lost, but it isn't unique in any particular way.

That said I took some pics in case people wanted to see some of it. Not of every page, but just some of the fun stuff. It's all still stuffed in the envelope it came in, and has the original replacement fuses. ;)

I attached the two smallest pics, but I wanted to leave the other ones large enough to read from. Here are the links to the others:

The sale on the machine has gone through, and the price ended up being $600. Not a steal, but likely not overpaying either from what I could find. Thanks again to everyone for the interest!

Thats a nice price...if you were closer and shipping didn't factor in I would have offered that no problem..maybe a few bucks more for a machine with some cool history like that..
