Ouch. I thought my MB was toasty. I only had to do the speaker panel and had delam and some chipping around the bottom 1" of the whole thing. Mine was open to the weather in an open trailer body for probably 15-20 years. I tell you, Nintendo plywood cabs really hold up. Someone must have really abused that poor thing!
Took a good solid hour to mix and apply that bondo(was working in small batches because that stuff starts to kick within 10 minutes even if you are kind of easy on the hardener). That's the first pass. Laid a lot more on than I needed too but I'll sand most of it off. Just wanted to stop the edges from fraying further. You are right about how hearty these Japanese hardwood cabinets are. This one def saw some time outside during its life. I think they get the hard wood for these from a secret exotic hardwood tree stand way up on Mt. Fuji. It'll probably take at least 3 more passes to get it half way decent
