Are you sure the 48-in-1's are "A" quality? I don't think they are making "A" quality 48's anymore, only "A" quality 60-in-1's.

I still have to laugh every time I see someone debate about "quality A" in-1 boards. Every one of them that I have seen looks EXACTLY the same, and they ALL seem to have the same sound issues...

They don't look the same. The "A" quality boards have design differences. If all the ones you have seen look the same, that is because you are seeing just the "B" boards. They haven't made "A" quality 48-in-1 boards for almost a year, which is why I question the original poster's claims that they are "A" quality boards. If that is true, then they aren't new.

If I am wrong, I challenge the poster to back up his claim. Excellentnet.com will tell you outright they no longer sell "A" quality 48 boards and haven't for some time.

There have been other threads where folks how are knowledgeable about circuit board design have discussed the quality difference. Yes, the games seem to operate the same, with the same sound issues and all, but the components and the design is different.

all 48 in 1's are qa for the past year or so

They are now called quality A because the A factory stopped making them and you can't just have Quality B, so B gets bumped to A? That's some funny Marketing shit right there. :) Thanks for the laugh!!

Edit: Just to be clear... I just got a board from Nixis last week and he ships fast. I just think the Marketing concept is funny.

But to be honest, they are "B" quality boards. The "A" quality company now only makes 60-in-1s, so the other company makes only "B" quality boards. I have had very few problems with them, but they are still "B" boards.

There may be some early production "A" quality boards out there that people may want to sell, so we shouldn't confuse the two.

thanks for all the bumps:)!!!!!!!!!

a,b,c,d,e,f,g or whatever a 48 in 1 is it's 75.00 shipped for 1(lol)
thanks for schooling me though:)
regardless it plays the same,i guess really there is no quality anything on the 48's since they only make one now

anyways thanks guys for keeping the post alive!!!!

There are probably thousands of the original "A" quality 48-in-1's currently in use out there, that will flood the market as soon as they come out with the new 256-in-1. ;-) The only thing you can get new these days is the "B" boards. Plenty of QA 48's out and about.

All that I know is that my 48-in-1 that I bought from Excellentcom.net (or whatever their name is) had OBVIOUS sound issues, particularly the "death" noise that occurred when you die in say, Galaxian, Scramble or Super Cobra. Based upon what I paid at the time, which was a LOT more than what these boards go for now, I would have to ASSUME that it would be considered an "A" board. This was before the Arcadeshop board was well known, and I probably paid comparable money to what that board costs.

Later on, when the 60-in-1's came out, and Nixs started selling them here (I wanted to buy one), I voiced my concern about sound issues. He assured me that if I was not happy, that he would take back the board. I told him about how the sound issues with my 48-in-1 made some of the games difficult to play. He assured me that I would be happy, and his shipping was prompt.

When I received the 60-in-1, it looked JUST LIKE my "old" 48-in-1. In full anticipation of Galaxain being fixed, I fired it up, only to find out that not only was the "death" explosion noise was still the same (static +10 DB higher level over all other sounds in the game), but also that the shot/fire/missle noise was completely MISSING! Needless to say, this was a step backwards from the 48-in-1, and Nixs graciously took the board back just as he said that he would. I do not blame him at all, as he is just the middle man. But this experience has really put me off to the whole "This isn't the poor quality 'B' Board" versus "This is 'A' quality" statements. They are all made in China, and provided that they actually "work", I really don't think that anyone would/should care WHICH factory in China built them. What matters FAR more to me, however, is whether or not the games play as they should. And in my book, I have yet to find ANY multi-board (outside of the Arcadeshop.com board) that accurately re-creates the original arcade experience.

Nixs is a good guy, and he obviously delivers on his promises. This post is not intended to reflect poorly on him, as he treated me right. And I am kind of sorry that I even brought it up earlier in the thread. But if you look at MY personal experiences, then I would HOPE that you can understand why I have to shake my head when people try to distinguish between the "quality differences" of a PC board that costs well under $100 new...

From the link...

LMAO...

"Did you know there are actually two different 48-in-1 PCB versions out there? It is true. Commonly the 48-in-1 PCBs versions are referred to as 'Quality A' and 'Quality B' board. A 'Quality A' board is the better board made by the original Multigame PCB Designer, while a 'Quality B' board is the cheaper low-grade board or a clone of the original. The Quality A board is produced from the original Multigame PCB designers made of the most up-to-date design and components, while the Quality B board is made of an older design with many components left off (cutting corners)."

So, basically, they are accusing the "B" board manufacturers of making a lower quality version (or "clone") of a board that was already itself a low cost "clone" to emulate classic games. Kind of reminds me of the laugh that I got when I found out that a certain young know-it-all who works at our local GameStop (who is WRONG about everything, but just loves to argue with people, because he just KNOWS what he is talking about) was FIRED from he previous job by the lowest paid employee that now works at my company. So, what exactly does that make him to ME, I thought??? -The BEST lie that kid ever told me was that XBOX360's are "more reliable" than PS3's, and that they DON'T have a poor track record of breaking down. As evidence to support this, he claimed that his PERSONAL XBOX360 was over four years old, and he had NEVER had a problem with it. Here is the kicker. He made this statement over a year ago, when the XBOX360 had not been available yet for even THREE full years! If I would have called him on it, you just KNOW that he would have played it off like how he had magically been a "beta tester" because of his awesome job, and that he had one for more than a year before the public...

Unfortunately what you are saying about the sound flaws and other flaws etc.. in the 48's and 60's are pretty much common knowledge anymore. Whether it be version A or B. And most people know this when buying them(just do a search of the many threads here about these Multi-Boards discussions).

Now are they going to change them and correct the sounds? Probably not, they are cheap and selling like hotcakes....mmmmmmm cake....

However, it's good of you to bring up the issues as there might be a few that don't know that when buying these.

To me though, Is it a big enough flaw to not buy them for projects? etc.... not really. At $70 it's hard to complain.

Agreed. The difference between the boards is just hardware. The software seems to be exactly the same. If the sound issues on some of the games bug you, you can easily turn those games off so they aren't even a choice. If you are really picky, you might be turning off maybe 10-15 games. Even then, you would have a nice collection of 30 some games that are darn close to the originals.
