More specifically it is for adjusting the B+ on Sanyo (Nintendo) monitors (IIRC). The adjustment is in a hard to reach spot.

Also on a k4600 it is necessary, more so than on a 20ez.

Heck, I use mine all the time, more than Sergeant Ross used her riding crop.
