FS: Joust Pinball Machine

Maybe we could get CPR to do a playfield...

shhh ... it's in the works...

(see Jim Smith about half-way down the page... )

I've been waiting for this for two years now...
I'm told "maybe" in 2011.

Estimated cost for a new [two-sided] repro is expected to be $700-$800

My Joust PF is pretty nice already,

but a shiny new clear-coated PF would be AWESOME.

I hope this project sees the light of day...

I watched the video, and although the concept is interesting, it doesn't look to me like the game has enough variety in the targets and goals. Almost like a pinball version of foosball. This type of game HAS been done by Gottleib as well. I saw one at an auction MANY years ago. It was a "soccer" theme if I remember correctly. It had a wire trigger "cage" suspended in front of and around the "player 2" flippers that would trigger them in whenever you were playing a "one player" game. So, it provided you with a "simulated" player 2 that hit the flippers any time the ball would trigger the switch. You could do the same thing these days with some sort of optical sensor and eliminate the mechanical aspect...

$4349.00 never would have guessed that much. I played the hell out of that game back in the day. I'm thinking it was 1978 or 79.

Joust pin is more about rarity, and weird factor. The actual gameplay looks pretty lame to me. I'd still want one, but it's no "grail"

I have to agree. I had one of these for years. I operated it in quite a few accounts, thinking it should earn like gangbusters being so unusual and eye-catching.

I can tell you why they made only 400 and no one else copied....it doesn't earn well at all. Which means basically that it isn't all that fun. I never really enjoyed playing it - at least nothing like I enjoy a good game of Addams, Twilight Zone, Whitewater, etc. There just isn't enough to shoot at and the rules aren't engaging.

I agree with YellowDog that if you get someone else playing it against you and both of you really care and are in a highly competitive mood, it can be very fun. But that's true of ANY game. Heck, Pong is great fun if you're going head to head with a rival and you both really want to win.

I sold mine about 5 years ago to Archer and I don't miss it frankly. Other than the great tie-in to the videogame Joust and the oddity factor, it's not really worth owning at $4300. Not to say I wouldn't take one if it were offered to me cheap...

Just my 2 cents.

I used to play joust pinball every time I went to the local arcade with a friend of mine.. When I first started collecting the 3 pins I had to have were joust, defender and black knight.

for $4k, I would sell mine. Hell, for $5k, I would sell both joust and defender...

Joust pinball is the favorite game at any of my arcade parties, because of the competitive head-to-head factor. Many of my games are there because they will let you play competitively - Space Duel, Wizard of Wor, Soul Calibur 3, Joust, Joust 2. But, unlike those others, Joust pinball pretty much requires you to have a second person on-hand to be interesting.

That actually sold for a lot more than I was expecting. But hey, it's rare, fun and completely awesome! I remember playing it at the HAAG expo last year.
