SOLD

Games are taking over my garage, and I don't have time to use this, so I am going to sell it. It all works; with the add on part on top, it uses a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I really don't remember what else it does. Has all the cables, but you still need the probes. I have two of them, but I am keeping them to use with the smaller analyzer I am keeping (only mentioning that because I can see one in the pic). The probe you can see by the monitor will come with it - That one came with the add on piece. Monitor, Keyboard and mouse included.

I will also throw in a working 16500B.

$150 Does not include shipping. Shipping would probably be expensive, so probably better for someone semi local to Reno.

Edit: I went out and grabbed some more information on this. The Add-on piece on top is a 16505a. Here is an ebay auction that has a little description: http://cgi.ebay.com/Agilent-HP-1650...ultDomain_0&hash=item1c0989d1c7#ht_1603wt_905

The 16500C has 3 pods in it:
16517 Master http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-16517A-16518..._Analyzers&hash=item5ae0423831#ht_5162wt_1139
Two 16555A http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Agilent-1655...BI_Analyzers&hash=item19bff64db3#ht_500wt_922

The 16500B has one 16555A pod in it.

ebay auctions are not mine nor are the crazy prices. Just shown to give a little description.

Man... I'd love to pick this up... I've got a couple 16500As, and they're great, but a C would be awesome. I will be at CAX, but I think that alone weighs more than the rest of my luggage!

Someone buy this! This is an awesome price for a lot of really nice gear. There's NOTHING like the older HP logic analyzers for ease of use. They are big and heavy, but they work like a dream. I can't afford it (too many things, including a vacation, on the near term) or I'd have snapped this up several weeks ago - someone buy it so I don't have to sit here feeling miserable!

I can't believe there isn't someone in the Reno area or going to CAX that couldn't use this.

I have been trying to sell this for a couple of months, and the 16500b by itself for a couple of years, and it has been only east coast people that want them. I don't think that anyone on the west coast has expressed any interest at all. I wish I had more space to keep it on the bench, but I think my 1661A and Fluke 9010a should be able to handle the limited amount of boardwork I plan to do. I may just try to store the big ones somewhere out of the way if they don't sell for this, I can't really justify selling them for less. Someday, I may have a separate space for the games, then I will be able to use the whole garage as a work area.

How much does everything weigh? One could estimate shipping charges and a little sumpthin extra for the shipper for packing it and materials.

Not sure. I can try to weigh it later today. I don't know where to find boxes that are big enough and strong enough to ship these in. I tried to get a quote a few weeks ago at the UPS store, but they wanted me to pay a lot to box everything up before I could even get a quote.

I think the main units are around 50lbs each.

That sounds right from my experience with these guys (I used a 16500A at a previous job). They are REALLY big and REALLY heavy. HP equipment of that era was built to last a long time and perform well under demanding conditions and these logic analyzers are quite the exemplar of that design style. They also have a knob on the front for the user interface, which is just cool.

Sadly, they are big and heavy and hard to package up, and that (coupled with the bench space needed to have one!) means that they are a bit of challenge for a small shop.

Do note: they do have legs on the back, and you can set them down on the floor with the monitor pointed straight up. The leads are quite long and reach up to the bench pretty well if you do that.

I thought about that, but I think the 1661A will probably do what I need it to. I do kinda like the knob on the big ones though, and the gui with the additional piece is really nice. I am kinda used to a mouse and keyboard. :) It is just the size that is the problem.

Oh yea, I understand - those guys are BIG suckers. Highly capable, but big. And if all you need is a few channels, then the 1661A will sure take up a lot less space on your bench! I was trying to give hints to anyone who might be thinking of buying them, that's all. I've actually got an Open Workbench Logic Sniffer (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/open-workbench-logic-sniffer-p-612.html), which is only 16 lines, but it's enough for an awful lot of things and only takes a few square inches beyond the laptop that's running it.

To everyone out there: even if you don't buy these HPs, someday, find someone who's got one and try it out. Sit down and probe something. Really use the UI for 15 or 20 minutes. And see what a good piece of test equipment is really like. See what can happen when the engineers really care.

I am kinda trying to talk myself into holding onto it. Selling it at this price is pretty much giving it away compared to what I payed for it. I know I will regret getting rid of it someday when I have a ton of space to work in.

That sniffer you linked to looks pretty interesting. I love the old test equipment, but it sure is nice to have something small and USB compatible.

Yea, that one I linked to is pretty sweet for the price - it's basically an FPGA, and it's no where near other things on features, but for $50 you can't go too wrong.

I am going to just keep the 16500c set for now. Maybe I will have space to set it up again one of these days. If anyone wants the 16500b, it is $25. local pickup only for that price.

So, I decided to store this until I had the space to set it up, but I forgot to take down the CL ad. I got an email about it last week, then today an engineer from LA drove up here to Reno to buy it. He was happy to pay the $300 asking price and drive 900 miles round trip to get it, so I would say it is going to a good home. One step closer to Pinbot... :)

For every seller there is a buyer - you just have to find each other.
