FS: Gaplus (Galaga 3) - $350ish

whew, gaplus is so hard it could almost make my ears bleed.

It pretty much kicks my butt. It's hard like Galaxian but with Galaga-like extra features. You can steal their device that lets them capture your ship and instead you can capture a bunch of their ships at once.

It's name is unfortunate. "Gaplus" is ugly and hard to say and is not recognizable as having ties to the predecessors.

Wow, that is hard to say! I don't know if I have ever tried before. Have you ever said a word so many times that it didn't sound right? This one took one time. :)

I'm too cheap to pay what you want for the game but I've always like the gaplus art. Not really sure why to be honest but I like it. If you decide you want it gone dirt cheap I'd probably buy it. Of course I really don't need another game. lol

I never have any clue how much to ask for these things any more. For a common game I have a good idea of what to expect. But for something like this...eh....make me an offer. You never know. I'm more willing to come down on price for someone like you than just joe-blow off the street. Not sure what your definition of "dirt cheap" is.

Just to let you know....some of the blemishes don't come across in the pictures. The most important being that someone has scratched off some of the paint on the INSIDE of the marquee. Not sure how that happens. Most of it looks good and it could probably be touched up by someone who isn't color blind like me.

I paid a hundred for mine, but I had to replace the monitor and the side art was not in nearly as good shape, and I had to replace the t-molding and give it a good scrubbing. I think your pretty close to a good price, maybe three-ish? That really is one of the best looking gaplus cabs I have seen hands down.

Sure is! I own a conversion.

How is it a conversion?

Gaplus was there first but didn't get much play, so the factory changed its name to Galaga 3 to try to get all the Galaga players to play it.

Granted the cabinet was first introduced as Gaplus but it was coming out of the factory as Galaga 3 at the end of its run.

Hence why I said:
Same game, different name.

More pictures

Here's a bunch more pictures for those who asked for more detail:

You can click to see images larger and then again to see them even larger.

You can see that there is damage to one corner. And the side-art is damaged on one side and then spray painted black. And on the marquee, part of the paint inside the "L" has been scratched out. Plus the regular nicks and dings. Note, I just notices the quarters in the bottom and snagged them for myself! :) There were 10 of them in there.

All works well. Sounds seem correct to me. Game play is good. I haven't tested the coin-doors but they appear complete.

Its a conversion in the sense that once it was not doing well in the arcades, ops were switching the marquees and chip sets so that the game displayed Galaga 3 on the screen instead of Gaplus. I have a board that says galaga 3 on the screen, but I found a couple of the old Gaplus chips in the bottom of the game where they did a quick on-site swap out on the board. My marquee is simply a Galaga marquee with a 3 painted next to the name. This was quite a common occurrence hence the reason I refer to it as a "conversion".
