Some fun games, but more room would be fun too.
My buddy just dragged in another game to our shared storage, so I need some space.

I need to get an operators license just to put some of my stuff on site for storage!!

Xybots needs some attention to the joysticks. Somebody said a pinball rubber would work nicely. I don't have much in this- $200

Galaga- boots up every time. Cabinet needs a little TLC though. $400

Battlezone- take your pick- upright or mini $400. If you've got your own working boardset, take it for $300

I'll deal on anything-

Kerry I know you were kidding, but watch out in s.c. if you put games out on location. The state makes ops buy a tax sticker, $250 a machine! It lasts two years, but it's almost impossible to make money like that. If you put them in a location without a sticker, the other ops rat you out and then you have to pay a fine, AND buy the sticker, and they confiscate the games. My boss back in the day tried to get away without paying it, the worst I saw was once I went in a bowling alley, all the games were unplugged with 'property of the state of south carolina" stickers on them, and they had a bill there for nearly $6,000 !

Who's kidding? ;-)

I actually went by the Dept of Revenue yesterday to get a clarification on the licenses. There is an owner/operator license (250) that says on the back you only need one regardless of how many machines are operated.

There is another one, the biennial license like you said- $250 for two years, prorated down to $125 depending on how close you are to July or something. That or a seasonal (apr-sep) license for $62.50. Each of those say 'per machine'!

I thought that maybe the owner/operator license was for the owner of a building that housed several games, but no- you need the owner/operator and then a license for EACH game. Kind of stiff.

I had two or three games at a console trading store (unlicensed) for about 5 months, but he shut down. The only one that earned any money was Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. It wasn't there quite long enough to recoup the original cost. I had a Ms Pac, a DKJr, and a 60-in-1 there at various times and those barely earned $5 every two weeks.

I've got another location in mind that may have more traffic (and I really want to free up some room), but the owner said the last guy there had 'license issues'. That's why I went to check out the cost. I'm fairly confident that I can break even, even if the fighting game has to 'support' a classic like Spy Hunter or Centipede. Some would argue why bother for a break even proposition, but it's nearby, and I think it's cool to see games in a well lit spot. Lots of young people today rarely see the big beasts, you know?

My biggest concern is that the local graphitti artists will carve their logo into the bezel glass. They do that crap all the time on the public bathroom mirrors and I CAN'T STAND IT!!

What do you think?

Throw some anti graffiti film over your bezels, stuff actually holds up pretty well and when it gets too bad just replace the film.

I uploaded a few pics to flickr- Battlezone and Galaga-

One game I forgot-
I picked it up as a Marble Madness project. It is a RoadBlasters cabinet (works w graphic issues) with all the stuff for Marble Madness- CP, marquee, daughterboard. I think there is a 2nd motherboard too. I was told the Marble Madness part worked, but when I plugged it in, there was a ROM error or something. When I plugged the 2nd motherboard in, I think it blew a fuse. I got discouraged with it considering what I paid and shoved it in the corner. I also picked up a Peter Packrat board, but without fixing the power supply, I can't say it works.
I also bought a 2nd RoadBlasters control panel, so you can make the best out of all of it. There's even an original, albeit rough, original box that one of the kits came in.

How about Crystal Castles? This one recently got pulled out from way back. The monitor works nice and pretty now, but I can't guarantee that for too long (it's a Matsushita 202G or something... I think they suck). It feels like the rollers got a little stiff from sitting around and I don't hear all of the music. I will look and see if it is an amp chip or something. Art is good on one side, but a little scratched up on the right.

Somebody come GET some STUFF!!
I'm tired of having to move 5 games every time I want to get to my shelves...

If you put them out Kerry, I hope you do well. With my op, I had some games in a gamestore a few times, I never could get them to make money.

One piece of advice I'll give you, believe it or not in the rougher parts of town the games make more money. Like you said though you have to worry about people abusing them, you may want to put out stuff you don't mind if it gets beat up a little bit. Ms. Pac & Galaga still earn well, to this day.

The licenses suck, damn SC for that. LOL.

Even worse is if you operate in Georgia. I had a Georgia Revenue officer run into me at a location in Georgia, he told me he was tired of us "Foriegners" coming to Georgia and making money. He confiscated the machines, and basically wouldn't give us licenses since our office wasn't in Georgia. When I tried to reason with him, he told me if I kept talking he'd turn it from a civil case into a criminal case.

I couldn't believe it, he literally called me a "Foriegner" LOL. Guy had a gun and everything. It was like watching a cartoon character.

OK-
Deal pending on the Galaga and Battlezone mini-

Crystal Castles down to $300

Xybots down to $150

Roadblasters w Marble Madness kit, Peter Packrat daughterboard, extra RB CP, 2nd motherboard all as-is $350
I may just resort to selling the boards and control panels and scrap the cabinet.
