FS: Cinematronics War of the Worlds, working vector, northern Colorado

So the real question is, did the yard-sale-owner know s/he had a rare video game or a $2500 Pacman "because its old"?

Does that make sense? Did they know its "true" value?

He did say he had seen one on ebay for a pretty penny. However it did have a nice patina
of dust. He felt pretty confident that it was worth something.

As to the quantity of these games out there. From my understanding this info comes from the horses mouth. The reason that this item was gone in a couple of hours is that several people have been looking for it for decades.

some of those horses also said they did not make barrier..

Holy crap, that is amazing. A working War of the Worlds? WITH intact side art? Oh man, what a find indeed... and at a garage sale! I've seen several games at garage sales before, but nothing of this magnitude.

Oh and get this.... It was on CL. I only realized this the day after I bought it.
Bottom line is I got lucky. Not only to have found it, but to have hesitated for 2 days before pulling the trigger.
The Arcade God's have smiled upon me. All those quarters are coming back from the alter of Frogger, Pac-Man, Lady Bug, Star Castle, Gauntlet, Rygar, Super Mario..........

Trophy Game

I don't know about the number 10.. I think there are a few too many around to be only 10. I think maybe 10 production color ones, but even that seems too low.. Probably many more if you count the kit B&W ones..

I was always under the impression 10 was the number of the dedicated ones with color monitors. This one is obviously a Star Castle conversion which I have seen several of over the years.

I had the fortune of playing this game before I ever considering buying one. After that I lost interest. I remember reading somewhere that the gameplay was so bad because they never really finished the game before it's release.

My understanding is that all of those that exist are conversions. It fell on it's face for the reasons you describe as well as others. It was basicly a prototype that never actually hit production. Of course I have no first hand knowledge, but if it were very common they would certainly be owned by every Vector collector here. As it stands, if you find one snatch it up, because demand is not an issue.
