FS: Cinematronics War of the Worlds, working vector

According to this link, only 10 of these games were ever made...

http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=war-of-the-worlds&page=detail&id=3138

The game is in good shape and is working. Side art is in tact with a few scrapes and scratches. There are also a few burns on the CPO, but the cabinet looks great and is solid.

There is a sale in the works for this game, but I convinced my friend to post this on the chance that there is a vector collector out there somewhere that doesn't want to pass up a chance at getting a very rare game for their collection.

Exidy's price guide lists the value of this game at $1000+. If you are interested in this game, please keep that in mind. I will be posting pictures soon.

Thanks.

That's what I get for not checking klov around 11am today. :( If the buyer could make himself known or shoot me a pm I would appreciate it.

Thanks

The buyer wishes to remain anonymous. I and Ray will keep their details in the strictest confidence. They are not interested in selling.

That being said I will share the story of this machine up to this point.
On Friday a friend of mine sent me a photo text message asking if it would be worth buying a game at this yard sale he was at. He wants me to build a multi for him. Anyway I saw the pic and told him it was not suitable for this. I then went out searching for details on the machine. After a bit of digging I figured out that this was an unusual find indeed. I had never heard of this one. Of course I tried to lowball the seller and see if I could get it without too much risk. He was not coming off of his price at all... Finding myself at a bit of a crossroads I called Ray up to get another brain on it. After searching an poking around a bit there seemed to be interest. So today I pulled the trigger on it. Mind you I did not have money set aside in the budget for this. With Ray's help I was able to find a buyer that will cherish, and take care of it.
I am just thankful to have had my little part in this piece of Arcade history's story.
The seller at the yard sale said he had this for about ten years, and he bought it from a restaurant. Not sure how it got there, or found it's way to Greeley Colorado. It just goes to show you never can tell.

All I can say is wow.
The seller at the yard sale is happy!
I am happy!
Ray is happy!
The Buyer is Really Really Happy!

What a great weekend adventure.

I think I'm going to be sick.

Whomever got this, I hate you ;)

I have this game (sadly not working) but it has Armor Attack side art. I dream of WOTW repro side art one day.

With only 10 ever available, I would think dreaming about someone stumbling accross NOS is more likely. Either way if it has the Bezel, CPO, and Marquee it is still a treasure. They were designed as conversions for Star Castle as they never hit production. One would think that they likely printed a few extra stickers. I mean if your gonna need ten sets, you probably did twenty.

I'll be the bad guy and point out that this game sucks as far as game play. But it does have the distinct honor of sucking in both black and white and in color. Not too many games can officially make that claim.

Holy crap, that is amazing. A working War of the Worlds? WITH intact side art? Oh man, what a find indeed... and at a garage sale! I've seen several games at garage sales before, but nothing of this magnitude.

I don't know about the number 10.. I think there are a few too many around to be only 10. I think maybe 10 production color ones, but even that seems too low.. Probably many more if you count the kit B&W ones..

Still, an amazing find. Probably could have sold for 2x-3x what it went for..

Right you are...I would have loved to see that thing next to my minty boxing bugs and Agent X proto cab...:)

So the real question is, did the yard-sale-owner know s/he had a rare video game or a $2500 Pacman "because its old"?

Does that make sense? Did they know its "true" value?
