FS: Atari Lunar Lander Thrust Controller - New Reproduction from RAM Controls

This is the official release announcement for the Lunar Lander Thrust Controller.

The controller is another precision made reproduction part by RAM Controls.

The controller's frame is made from precision laser cut 11GA and 12GA 1018CR steel (much stronger than the OEM HR&P steel). The powder coat is textured black which provides a really nice finish. The black ABS cover is slightly upgraded with newer/better materials available today. The handle weldment is chrome plated (original was zinc plated) for some extra punch! The handle itself has been upgraded to aluminum with a hard black anodized finish. And to round it all off, the potentiometer has been upgraded to a top of the line "Extra Life" precision device.

The thrust controller is a drop-in replacement for the OEM controller. Just install it, hook it up and start using it!

KLOV price is $175 including shipping to any destination on the planet ($200 plus shipping on my website). If you need extra parts or parts to repair your existing thrust controller, send me a PM. I've got all the parts available! My paypal email address is [email protected]

And here's a few pics for you to enjoy.

...just to drive the point home that I've made a boatload of these! This is a partial shot of the 60pc lot I have ready to go. It's part of the 300pc lot I've been assembling the last week or so.

Again, $175 shipped anywhere on the planet. Send to [email protected]

Enjoy!!!

I'm all for a piece looking original, but whenever you can 'upgrade' a part, in finish or materials and it still look right, go for it..

I try to slip in as many upgrades as I can Some of the upgrades come from the fact that manufacturing processes have evolved in the last 30 years. Others are a matter of sinking more money into the project. Obviously, Atari was always trying to cut corners in this dept., but since I'm providing parts to the collector community, it's important to go with my instinct to make quality parts. Cutting corners isn't possible. :)

I think these LL thrust controllers turned out nice!!!

300? I doubt there are even 150 of them. Actually, I made enough parts for 600 LL thrust controllers. I pre-assembled 300 of them last weekend and finished off 60 of those this weekend. I thought that I would never run out of MH roller controllers when I initially made 250. Boy, was I way WAY off the mark. I'm on my third run and already down to my last 50 or so. They sell like hotcakes.....and when Darin released his MH conversion artwork, I sold a TON of them.

Anyhow, back to LL....there might not be that many original units still in existence, but there's the MAME guys and the Multi-Vector guys..... and when the Asteroids/AsteroidsDeluxe/LunarLander kits hit the market, there's another outlet. I'm trying to think ahead on this one. 600 units.... it better be enough because I really do NOT want to take this one on again as it had two difficult components that had me pulling hair for awhile.

Enjoy the repro thrust controllers, everyone!!

Nice. I can't believe there's 300 Lunar Landers still out there?

Out of curiosity...

I have an original Asteroids, and would love to make it an Asteroids, AD, LL "multi", but how are you going to fit a thrust controller on the panel with the asteroids control buttons? I would think that the thruster would take up too much real estate to fit with the existing controls. Am I wrong???

You could do a panel swap, but Asteroids had a giant panel. So you should be able to work everything in if you want too.

Are you serious? You think there aren't more than 150 LL's still around?

Maybe it's just me but I'd think there's a lot more around than that.

My hat is off to you for your efforts, btw. :)

Dave do you have the panels these attach to?

Hold off on this redirect. Let me get some much needed input from some of the people I've shipped panels to. I absolutely need this input before I decide if they're officially available.

BTW, that reminds me. I'll be shipping the Thruster pre-orders this week.

Only 4830 lunar landers were made vs 47,840 asteroids and 18142 aseroids deluxe.

I was lucky enought to score a LL a few years ago. Even if I quit collecting and was to get out of the hobby..I would still keep it. What I would really like to see for classic games like LL and Asteroids.. someone offering real silk screening for the CPOs. You know..someone you could send the CP to to have it completely refurbished...or at the very least do the artwork after you have propery stripped and repainted your CP black.

I have seen more I, Robots and dedicated Major Havocs than Lunar Landers. I've been in this hobby for a very long time and in that time I've seen three Lunar Landers in-person. I own one of those three. Three! With such low numbers, I can't help but think that most of the LL's were turned into Asteroids at some point in time (probably early on).

Oh and Dez/DJ, you're both on the "list".

LL/Ast/AstDlx kits - when they come out, I will be contemplating making a special multi-panel which will attach to Ast cabs... I might even make one for Ast Dlx cabs.. They're so huge, there's plenty of room for all the controls needed. I'd want to openly discuss the subject here and get some real input on button placement/thruster placement....etc.

I just hope the "kit" includes a header to connect the thrust controller to as well as a header for the mission select display panel (instead of cramming it onto the vector screen - cool, but too far off the reservation for me).

I feel the same way. LL and Assault. Those two I want to keep no matter what.
