FS Assault Reproduction Control Panels

Yes, mine looks great as well. Thanks for the effort to get these done!

Looking forward to the Multi-Vector cp too!

for anyone on the fence about picking one of these assault metal repro panels... Or any of Takeman's other repro projects let there be no doubt. I pulled my old panel to send to Quarterarcade to further the Assault Repro CPs and probably will not be getting it back until the CPO's are printed. Rather than completely disabling my Assault, I've decided to go with Takeman's repro powdercoated CP in the buff. I still have to install the controllers but here is what the CP looks like installed. It is absolutely perfect :) Can't believe the quality of Troy's work. Totally amazing. Had to relocated the cabs hold-down latches but that was no biggie. Though looking forward to the CPO being applied, it looks pretty good as is:

Looks nice Tom. Just to clarify, my panels tabs are correct and you had to move your old panel clamps because your old panel was messed up?

Nice Rampart...what are the odds of a Rampart Tourney when I come out to CAX?

I'm not sure man. The hold down clamps looked as though they were in the original position, as there were no additional screw holes in the cab. It was about a 1/2" off, but it was easy enough to relocate the clamps. I probably have an oddball cab, heh.

Rampart tourney??? huzzah! I'd love to participate in one of those but Nash probably would take it..although I might get lucky with my guerilla tactics! Unfortunately though I probably won't be able to hit cax (again). I keep hoping every year, but probably will have to wait til my kids get a little older :(

I will have to move my clamps to mate with the holddown brackets on the repro panel as well. It's somewhere around an inch off. I haven't measured it yet. There are no other screw holes in the wood so my clamps must be in the original position too. I was just slightly dissappointed with this minor inconvenience but the quality of the panel overall more than makes up for this small detail.

Bring on the CPO and side art!

when relocating the hold down clamps The only slightly tricky thing involved is getting the right tension. Don't want the clamps pulling down too hard for fear of eventually snapping off the new cp clamps, but not loose enough to introduce panel slop or movement. got lucky and got it the first go around so no extra holes (other than the 4 new ones that were needed). I put the cp in place, engaged a bracked and applied a little downward pressure, then marked the holes with a sharpie. Itd be alot easier with an extra set of hands. By myself, I could only mark 1 hole and had to guestimate the 2nd, when ready to drill, but it wasn't bad. Recommend spax self tapping 3/4" x 10 screws, but the woods soft so anything prob will do.

As far as the CPO's go, my original panel is now pulled and I'll be sending it off to Anthony at Quarterarcade this week in order for them to get the thickness and texture as accurate as possible, in addition to having the films. so we can keep this rolling :)

Well, I'm a little peeved if the mounts are off. I used an original panel from a friends game. So Im not sure why they would be. It had the orignal unscathed CPO on it with both tabs in tact.

I am gonna have to look into this and see where the problem is. Sorry bout this guys....I'll get back with ya on this, hopefully tomorrow.

I wonder if they are off by the width of the latch plate? In other words, the measurement was to one end of the plate, but when they lined it up for welding, they went to the opposite end?

If it is something like that then it will be really easy to re-mount the latches to match.

Not sure if its worth getting too worked up over. Its easy to account for and the quality of the panels are truly superb...I'm more than satisfied :)

btw thanks for the compliment on the Rampart. Its huo from atari HQ. I used to have another without sideart but this replaced it. Funny thing, for huo, it had screen burn...those Atari employees must have played the heck outta it ;P

I ended up swapping the burn free monitor from the other Rampart and now its good to go! Have also followed Francis's lead and installed lighted colored tracballs and went an extra step, installing $300 worth of ultra high precision bearings for truly accurate tracball response. The difference between these and the regular tracball bearings is night and day.

Ok, It took me a little bit to get together with my pal with the original panel. Its official, the metal guy goofed! If you're ok moving the clamps its fine and affects nothing. If you dont want to, you can send it back to me and I will have the metal shop fix them. I am bringing the few I have left back to have them fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I wish I would have caught this myself or learned about the problem earlier.

Things are going to happen! No worries, it'll all be good in the end.
