FS Assault Reproduction Control Panels

Great job Troy. You certainly don't mess around. The turnaround time of the cps has me feeling the pressure for the cpo's ;)

Looking very forward to this as well as your other projects.

Yes, we are looking forward to the CPOs, but don't rush it-I think we'd all prefer 'good' over 'fast'!

Cones are tall black... Button is red, but I dont remeber it flashing.

Anybody else?

Looking at the schematic (and my machine) now, and it's not lit. There's only the control lines and the switch ground line out to the control panel. Also, given that the machine is JAMMA, and JAMMA doesn't have a pin for such things, it's not surprising. (NOTE: The correct button is not present in my machine, but there's no spare wires, so I'm convinced that the schematic is accurate).

If you wanted, you could run +5 out there and get a constantly lit button, but that's not my thing.

For reference, looking at my manual, the cone is Atari #036895-01 (called a 'black molded bezel') and the switch is 62-039 ('Red switch' or 'Red cap switch').

Cones can be found at:
http://videogameparts.com/category.sc?categoryId=22 $(2.99/ea)
http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/6637 ($7.50/ea)

Both of whom seem to have the LED buttons, but not the non-LED buttons apparently used in Assault. BYOAC's WIKI has reference that EAO makes a compatible switch, but without a little more data, I can't easily find it.

The cone screws onto the switch, right? Can someone tell me the diameter/threading of the cones? From the pictures I've seen, it looks pretty fine. And the height of the cones? If I had that info, I perhaps could find a compatible switch.

Will pick up some of those cone repros, but $30/each seems steep for the lit switches. Too bad Ram guy started getting flaky.

As for the original switches if memory serves the lit and unlit use the same switch. Only difference I've seen is that the unlit ones don't have an LED under the button/shield. I know I've replaced the LED in one, pretty sure one time I also added an
LED to a unlit.

Ahh, that makes a certain amount of sense. Are the cones the same as the ones on Missile Command?

Let's see-Ahh! Missile Command Cocktail used the same 62-039 for it's start button! So yea, same part exactly, just not lit on Assault. Interesting - Missile Command used bushing '033127-001' Is that the shorter cones?

AHH! Missile Command cocktail used a nut on the switch as well, and the nut is a #10-24. So let me hunt around and see if I can come up with a switch that will at least work - I'm willing for it not to have the right look if it will at least fit in correctly.

I have a few panels left, $70 each plus $16 in shipping to USA48. Once these are gone, I will not run them again. Silk screened overlays will be out this summer. Dont miss out......

Thank you to everyone who supported this project.

Just got mine in - looks great! Can't wait to get the new CPO and put this thing together!

Weekend Bump!

Got my two panels, didn't fully unwrap them but as long as the catches have proper welds and the finish is good I'm sure it will look great. Did the stereo mod a while back, just got the multigame/HSS kit and switch in, and am psyched to get a repro CPO on w/ a 2P start button.

Many thanks to Matt, Troy, Quarterarcade(?), and everyone else (even RAM Controls) who has enabled these Assault repro and upgrade projects to move forward. I never, ever thought this game would see any repro stuff. Your hard work is appreciated.

Thanks! The clamps on the underside have several solid welds in the center. Looks / feels really sturdy compared to the original...

I'm curious - how did the stereo mod go? Was it worth the effort? Does it sound as good with Assualt Plus as with Assault?

Eh it is one of those things you can't tell much difference on (or aux'ing the signal out to a external stereo setup with better speaker arrangement or something). Considering the effort required to perform the mod properly (routing/cutting new speaker holes, wiring, acquiring parts like a matching speaker, 2nd or dual gang volume pot, a Tekken JAMMA+ connector, etc.) it probably isn't worth it by any measure (especially if your original volume pot is flaky and you end up having to buy 2 new ones to get the channel levels even).

Thanks. That was actually what I suspected, and one of the reasons that I've held off on working on it. Thanks!

+ 1000!

Just got my panel today, and it is a thing of beauty! The quality is top notch, and I'm a picky bastard, lol. Amazing job, Troy - just amazing. Thank you. I can't wait for the cpo...

Awesome quality on these control panels don't miss out! The cpo art films have indeed been sent off to Quarterarcade, so they will indeed be reproed!

Big thanks to Troy, Francis and Anthony!
