From Vids to Pins...

I started collecting vids in 1993, but didnt get my first pinball machine till 1998. (Whirlwind). A year later I bought a Fun House and a few years after that I bought a Black Night 2000. I have a list of about 12 other pins that I would like to own some day, but my basement is full and those pins take up so much more space, so short of me winning the lottery and getting a bigger house, the 3 pins and 47 vids is where my cap is :(

i am a ARCADE only guy right now....... BUT

i would definitely like to own some pins later on down the road (esp once i have some more room)

i have been playing more and more pins lately at fellow klover's houses, so i can see how pins would become super addictive.

would love to pickup-

BRIDE OF PINBOT
BLACK KNIGHT 2000
TAXI

now that I have a few vids and a couple of pins I feel I NEED a juke. Anyone else in the same boat?

Shit, too bad your not around here I could get a CD or record juke dirt cheap...not sure if they fully work or not though.

Vids to Pins = Bueno

Nice 3 Pin collection DLP. All 3 of those are on my want list of pins I would like to get. That Whirlwind looks really nice :)

I too have gone in the Vid to Pin direction as most of you already know. I've owned well over 100 uprights or more in the last 7 years, with many restorations, good times, and headaches. Owning 2 or 3 of the same title many times over. There are some vid titles that I will add back to the collection, but Pins are so much more fun, with far better design, and replayability. Like a lot of people have mentioned the Vids have a nostalgia to them that I relate to, and only some are actually fun to play. Others are just cool for the art and cabinet design and that's about it. I've found that most "arcade collectors" have a lot of them not because they love the games so much, but because they are cheap to get unless you find a rare or mint example of a game. Perfect example, alot of people get vids for cheap, and then you see that same person turning that game around for sale a few weeks later... over and over.... the life span of a vid is far less than pins. People tend to hold on to them alot longer and they aren't molested and whored out as much as vids... haha

With pins, there is a lot more invested. I have a mint condition Twilight Zone, Theatre of Magic, and Bride of Pinbot. Soon to be adding a mint Scared Stiff. I have about 5 other titles I'd like to add, but that will take some time :)

I recently bought a beautiful BurgerTime and added the Arcadeshop multi-board to it. I also got the repro panel w/ trackball option. It's a lot of fun with that kind of variety in a classic cabinet. I am looking to add back nice dedicated examples of Tempest, Qbert, and Asteroids Deluxe. That's about it for the vids. If anyone has nice examples of these they'd like to sell, contact me :)

Are pins currently at a record high in terms of value? If so, what does this say about the oft-reported claim that vid values are suffering because of the current economy?

The Multi boards being cheap and available have killed the vid prices . Instead of having to buy a dedicated game to play a certain game people just pick up a Multi game instead .

Look at the prices for a Multi game $800 , thats way more than most dedicated game . So you can see theres a much higher demand for a Multi game than a dedicated .
