How many of you guys started out 100% video games, but after getting a pinball machine, saw your interest switch to pretty much nothing but pins?

I love my vids but my first pin completely opened my eyes to the possibilities. I think I am done with vids for awhile. Actively seeking my next pin.

I'm with RareHero on this one...

I have to collect my favorite vids for nostalgic purposes as well but I want pins to PLAY them!

Collected 38 Uprights before I bought my first pin.... Revenge from Mars, then bought a Whirlwind, then F-14 Tomcat. Last Pin was Star Wars EP1.... Had to since I have RFM....

I play them all.... Pole Position II, Joust, Sinistar, etc... Lately F-14 and Whirlwind have seen the most play tho...

Same here, since getting my first SS pin (Cyclone) I find myself looking for more, learning all I can about them.

With any luck I'll be adding a LOTR to the collection in the next week or so, fingers crossed!

I actually started with pins.. well _A_ pin (firepower), then built a mame cab and then went clinically insane and started buying any and everything I could :)
I still have a bunch of pins and love them, but have been buying more vids lately (probably 'cause they are cheaper, and I need to round out the group!).

I initially was going to buy a pin when I first started, but then built a MAME cab, and picked up some other cabs, which I sold off and paid for my Judge Dredd. I try and save up for another pin, but I can get cabs for so much cheaper.

I got to 24 vids before getting my first pin a few months ago. I rarely played pins BITD, but I'm pretty hooked now. I will not go 100% pins ever, though. I need my vid fix, too. They are just part of my DNA.

Pins are fun, but expensive. Even the cheapest pins are pricey. I have a 1980 Stern and a 1988 Data East. My next pin will be a 1990+ and I know it's going to cost me four digits...

I hope to follow in your direction Friz. I think a nice example of an early 80's SS is cool, then a late80's early 90's alpha numeric SS, and lastly a DMD pin. I would add an EM to that list but they were way before my day, so this is more like a timeline of pins I have played through out my life so far.

I do find myself looking into pins more and more.

Me too.

Even though I've always wanted a pin, I've kept them on the back burner -- due to trepidation over maintenance and cost. I'm ready to get one now, even though it will mean losing some vids for funds and space.

...

I dont see that as any natural progression.
Im both into vids and pins, but more into vids cause they are more nostalgic to me.
Early 80s when vids came in, pins were pretty much out... Other than just playing Haunted House, Black Hole and a few others.. I didnt play any pins til Pinbot / Elvira came out.

For me, it would kinda be a return to my roots. Before Space Invaders became available to me, pins were pretty much all there was, and I loved them dearly.

And even though the availability of pins dropped significantly (especially in the podunk little town I grew up in during the 80's), I still played and enjoyed pins whenever they were to be found.

Always both for me, but pins have gotten crazy expensive, and forget about it if you to replace a broken plastic. been looking forever for fire slingshots. BUT pins do rock.

Are pins currently at a record high in terms of value? If so, what does this say about the oft-reported claim that vid values are suffering because of the current economy?

I bought some project pins that I will probably be selling, just because working on them is way more frustrating than vids right now. Not that I may not pick up a few more later, but I vastly underestimated the amount of work required to get a "dead" pin running vs a "dead" vid. And I need the space in my garage back.

I love pins and there is nothing a video game can do to emulate all the complexity and randomness inherent in a pin, which is why they are holding their price in this market (IMO). Plus, they just seem to have some allure that video games don't. The number of people that have a pin in their home vs a video game console make them an instant draw with people. I only have one working pin and it is played all night at parties, usually with a waiting list.

I got a little burt out working on vids, and decided to switch over to pins for a change. I've recently gone from 4 vids and 2 pins to the opposite - 4 pins and 2 vids. I tend to get all OCD on whatever project I pick up, then when I'm about 95% done I start getting tired of it and look for something else. It's a wonder any of my games are finished!

I have 40 vids and 10 pins and enjoy one as much as the other. However, as of lately, I'm leaning more towards the pins. The only problem with the pins, as stated before, is the expense of buying and repairing them.
