I'm in the process of restoring a Frogger for my collection. The cabinet has been painted black on both sides with no remains for woodgrain underneath. I've sanded the cabinet and will be priming it for a coat of paint. I'm trying to decide if I should apply woodgrain vinyl to it or go a different, unoriginal route and painted it Frog green and then apply the sideart. As much as I love restoring classics to their original look, I can't help but think painting it green would look cool.

Has anyone done this with their Frogger? Thoughts?

Although I've never seen the sideart on a cabinet, I've always thought that - if I restored a Frogger cabinet, I'd want to do use the sideart.

Cool idea! I'm not big on the woodgrain at all. I have a Time Pilot I'll be restoring this summer and can't wait to get the remnants of the old woodgrain vinyl off so I can paint it!!

For what it's worth I'm not saying to go with wood grain. Just saying personally I would probably use a color other than green.

I long while ago, I was messing around with some color options for someone doing a frogger mame makeover. Here's those images if it helps any..

I think I still like the dark/modern woodgrain with blue trim and cp option best myself.

I think all black sides with the Frogger side art applied would look real nice. Then go with a color on the front that compliments the marquee, or CPO, or bezel.

I'm restoring a Frogger right now and I think I'm going to go with the woodgrain vinyl. It's not the best look, but it's the original look, which is what I'm going for.I think painting the sides black would look fine.

Thanks for all the input! I actually made up my mind last night and decided to go green. I applied the first coat tonight and I already like it. I'm also thinking about seeing how deep blue T-molding looks as a compliment to the marquee blue. So far I really like this green.

I was seriously considering doing the woodgrain vinyl for a while and then started to think that green would look cool even though it's not original. It'd be one thing if the original woodgrain was still intact, but there was nothing and for $125 for the vinyl, I thought I'd veer a little off the "original" path. I think the side art is going to look pretty nice over this paint. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the coats applied!

On a side note, I'm doing something similar with my Centipede Cabaret that I'm restoring. The woodgrain is a bit scuffed up, so I'm painting the sides white and applying the repo side art and also considering using green t-molding. I think it'll look pretty cool!

Good luck and the green sounds like a good choice!

My Asteroids Cabaret has the woodgrain of course and while I am not a big fan or it, it is in very, very, good codition for a 30 year old game.

I am going to keep it, but change the T molding and buttons to a color, to liven it up alittle.

Anyway, yours sounds great!
