I've got a Frogger that's been sitting since I got it 8 months ago? Didn't work at all when I got it. Finally started to mess with it. Found 3 broken ceramic caps on the pcb 834-0084, and one bulged cap on the monitor chassis. Replaced all with proper parts & now I have much noise with no game sounds thru my speaker. I have a picture. The vert is a problem & I can't seem to get it to hold. I believe it is a nanao chassis w/ a sega tube. I also have this problem with the picture that makes it look like a book turning pages. I'm definately no monitor guru. I can "sometimes" get lucky with such things, but mostly just swap bad board components. Anyone have a general direction to point me in with this? All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, replaced the obvious bad ones just to see where I would end up. I cannot identify the chassis so I can't order a ready made kit. There really are not that many electrolytic caps on it. Most look nice and clean compared to everything elso being coated in dust.

Here's a pic of the chassis if you know what it is.

Got a decent pic now. Horrible buzz / hum from the speaker. If I wiggle the molex from the edge connector to the speaker / coin mech, it goes away and kills the video. Any ideas? Has anyone run into this before?

Looking at a cap does not tell what's going on inside the cap. Most are at least 30 years old by now.

Also, the ready made cap kits are usuallymore then buying them separately from say Mouser elec.

I would do a cap kit and while do so, hit every solder joint on the boards.

Capped the board & reflowed it too. I think I've found my "potential" problems. It looks like my edge connector has had some "work" done to it in the past. I've got a couple of exposed wires that I think are shorting to each other when the harness is moved. Thanks for you support & info!

Finally spent a little frogger time tonight. I heard an electric "crack" from it and now my screen is back to the way it was in the pic before...except red intead of blue & green! No idea with my limited experience why. Replaced volume pot & wiring to edge connector. Less buzz, but still no sound. Does anyone know where the sound amp is on the pcb? It is the older style gremlin board. Any suggestions on the monitor issues? Thanks.

Anyone??!! I've recapped the entire board now except for the big filter cap. Should this be replaced? I've been told these are never a problem. I can't find a damn thing wrong with this board. By the way, I don't know what brand the chassis is. I can't find a decent test point for the B+ either. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I'm ready to throw it in the trash!!

Its probably a Nanao MC-2000 monitor. They are a real pita. Your best bet is to swap out the original monitor for something more common and reliable like an Electrohome G07. When you do that I think you have to modify the power out put to the monitor from 100v to 110v at the transformer.

80's guy...Thank you very, very much for the response. I've had little to no support with this task. It has been very trying! I have another monitor I can swap out, but I don't know much about monitors and it is one I cannot identify. I would guess it's a naneo or matsushita (late 80's). I don't know a thing about sync and am half afraid to open a new can o' worms! What the hell, though...I think I will give it a go. Thanks!

I fought with one of these..and lost. If the flyback goes out you are screwed because there is no replacement available. I thought I had found a replacement..but it did not work out. I think you can search for that thread.

One thing just to be sure. Your monitor is rotated 90° so the axes may not be what you think. For your install, these are the adjustments looking at the monitor.

So you have what looks like a horizontal sync problem. First check that your monitor has only H, V, or H+V connected properly. If Both are connected, try disconnecting H sync and see what happens.

The H & V??, are those the wires from the yoke? I understand the concept, but not sure what wires, components to look at.
