I have a working frogger with no sound. It started with a loud buzz/hum, so I changed the sound amp(M51516L). That cleared the loud buzz and the volume control is known to work. The board in this frogger is 834-0069. The top board(the one with the amp) has been swapped with a known good board and that fixed the sound. What would be the next step in the troubleshooting approach? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on purchasing a logic probe to help with this sort of trouble. Unfortunately, I do not have a programmer. :(

You are kind of like me right now DEAD in the WATER.

You need a logic probe at this point or a scope, then an eprom programmer.

You need to find out if the program is make the signals to produce sound and if not then that needs to be fixed. If the program is producing the signals then you need to look at what sends signals to the amp and follow back to the sound chip. Sound problems are usually a bad can type capacitor and either have radial leads that make it look like a coffee can standing upright. They have axial leads sometimes that look like a coffee can laying on the side with leads cumming from it. Give them you full eyeball and look closely at them and even sometimes they pull out and get pushed back in so you can't see that it is broken.

I usually suspect they have broken if they are pushed to on side and plan on replacing them.
