Hey all i have a problem on a Frogger that has me stumped. I have a Hum bar on the monitor that wont go away. I have done a full cap kit and updated the power supply. I have also tapped the video signal and tested the monitor with a jamma game and the hum is gone. So i replaced the PCB thinking that was the problem and i still have that monitor hum. I am running out of ideas any input would be grateful. Thanks!

What make/model monitor is it ?

Is everything properly grounded ? (ie. monitor, power supply, etc)
Does your power cord have the ground prong ?

Both the wave effect and the hum bar initially leads me to think it's a grounding issue.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah i have 100% ground from the monitor frame to the transformer block, P/S and Coin door. All has continuity from the ground plug pin. Monitor Nanoa mc2000.

Has anyone had problems with the edge connector on Frogger's? I am thinking of replacing this to see if this might cure my problem.

i vote power supply. Meter the 5v and see if it holds steady or if its flucuating. ALso set meter to ac and see if you have any ac voltage present on the 5v.

I check my power supply and i have no A/C ripple. I have unplugged the florescent light, Audio and still have this Hum bar on this game. Its driving me nuts that i cant locate the problem.

Ok after a long battle i am at my end wits with this monitor. I have replace the Tantalum cap 408 and replaced resistor R16 and c905 filter cap and still same problem. What is weird about this is when i adjust my Vertical size i get this rolled up vertical tear.

In your first post you said you" tapped the video signal and tested the monitor with a jamma game and the hum is gone" I am guessing you were powering the Jamma game from another power supply? Just connecting the jamma monitor wires to the Frogger monitor input?
If so that tells you the monitor is fine.
I had a similar problem with a Space Panic game. I thought it was the monitor so I capped it and the colors were brighter but I still had the moving bar running across the screen from right to left just like in your video.
Turned out to be the power supply. Even though I had all the correct voltages it was bad. I replaced the filter caps and rectifier diodes and that fixed the problem. You can read about it on my web page.

I used a new switching power supply and gutted the old out. So the last hour i decided to plug in a different board since the the first test board was Surf Planet and that game is graphically granny. I hooked up a new board King of Fighter's to my test jamma and sure enough i do still have a vertical hum. I will have to start a new thread over in monitor repair now that i have confirmed that its not power supply or board related. Thanks for the help : ) Evapa.....
